Expats in the Estepona,Manilva area

Postby Sailor » Tue Aug 04, 2015 2:36 pm

Hello all, my partner of 26 years have just moved to La Duquesa from Australia.
The villa we bought ended up being in a much worse condition than when we looked at it in January and we had to do lots of repair and renovation work which was trying. We wonder if there is an expat community here in the area and if there are expats who would like to meet on an agreed timeframe to have a conversation , share experiences and generally increase the number of people one gets to know, at present we do not know many we are a retired couple , both ex senior managers in Multinational companies, I have raced yachts offshore ( Sydney to Hobarts amongst) for many years and have done extensive cruising in the Pacific, Baltic, and a little in the med.
we are very interested in the state of the world and would like to listen and hear others opinions.
It has been a monumental decision to move here from Australia, there are compelling reasons but it is still difficult.
Cheers

Hi Littlemo

Your Link does not work. Try using the URL tab as Enrique has told me in the past to do. It works.

Thanks

Nigel

Hello Sailor 8) 8) , my son sails TP52's and has Volvo 70 experience as well. He was very disappointed with the sailing scene in Spain. Do you intend to sail ?

Hi Scotty, sorry for the late reply, I would love to get on a boat just for fun, teaching how to sail or the odd race, yes your son is right this is not the best sailing ground in the world but just getting out on the water would be great!

Hi all,
I am sailing.! I got myself a crew position on a 31 foot well set up boat and we are racing against one other similar boat every Wednesday and dis a race in Algeciras bay.
I have to say the sailing here in different than in OZ, strong winds, no wind of headwinds!.
Still enjoyable. We are sailing out of Estepona harbour.
Met the skipper at the ICE club.
Cheers

Well done Rainer. There is also a group racing small fast Benetau's in Marbella port if you want to chase the lead up.
