New (11.07.2016) Gov Web Site for ExPats

Postby Lavanda » Thu Jul 14, 2016 8:18 pm

This web page was set up a few days ago but I've only just noticed it. It is for keeping people from the UK, who are living and working in the EU, updated with any changes that may happen as the UK withdraws from the EU. It might be worth putting into 'Favourites' or "Bookmarks".

Good one, Lavanda.
At least we can trust this since it was issued before Boris arrived ;-)

That site tells you nothing that you didn't know already. We are still in the EU and likely to be so for at least 2 years and possibly 6 years if you believe Hammond.

All it tells you is exactly what you are entitled to at the moment and have been for many years.

It will be a very long time before the government can actually give us any useful information as, frankly, they haven't a clue about what will happen or even if Brexit will actually happen.

Thank you for being so negative, Sid. The site may tell us nothing now because nothing has changed, agreed. However, there WILL be changes and these will not all be revealed at the stroke of midnight the day before Brexit is finalised. They will be revealed as and when they are agreed. The site will, I believe, keep us up-to-date as events unfold. The important thing for all of us, I feel, is that the very existence of this new site means that we have not been forgotten. I feel that is somewhat reassuring.

It's difficult not to be negative when you combine the words Government, Brexit and Information.

As you say, it will become more useful as negotiations start.

I did not delete your post.

In fact, according to the moderators log, no posts have been deleted for at least three days.

I sometimes find, if I reply via the 'quick reply' at the bottom, my post vanishes, it doesn't appear on the thread I'm trying to post to. Maybe that happened to you, costakid? Did you check that your reply actually appeared? I always use 'reply' at the top of the thread now.

If you are using the Quick Reply facility don't forget to hit the Submit button and not the Post Reply button.
I have had messages not submitted when I've hit the wrong button.
Cheers
