I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Well I must have worked up a thirst writing and replying on here....that's my excuse..
We will have 2 or 3 glasses of the bars finest red wine and Mega tapas each and the bill for Mrs. B and me will be less than 9 euros..
Not worth cooking at home....?
Anyone want to join us ?
Regards,
Gordon...

Love to, I'm just a little bit wary of the comment "the bars finest red wine"
Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Let's face it, "red wine" will do if it's accompanied by the odd tapa or two.
Especially at that price.

Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Good morning Campers....
Well we enjoyed our few glasses of red wine ( Coto...about 6 € a bottle in Mercadona ,so quite a reasonable wine ) and tapas...last Night.
And it was good to be joined at least in thoughts by some of the A.Com members and we hope that they also enjoyed their 'virtual' drink..
It was still warm enough to sit outside the bar although it started to get a bit chilly around midnight, but I think it's time to start preparing our winter clothing, when it gets cold here it's an instant change from hot to freezing ! .....can't wait !!!
So...Wherever you are may we wish you a very pleasant and peaceful day.....
Regards,
Mr.Mrs.Benidorm

Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Well not sure about the finest but Coto is very acceptable. I always try to go for a Ribera del Duero thats slightly chilled and have no problem sharing a bottle with my wife.
Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
As long as she gets a full glass then that's ok.
Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Costakid,
Believe me Coto is the finest wine that our local bar stocks, most of the locals in there drink 'campo wine'...
The food and wine are great in the bar , but for us the main attraction is the chance to chat with some of the old 'characters', not easy to understand but my campo Spanish usually improves after I've had a few drinks.!
We have learned so much about the history of the area and local customs, did I ever mention that I like history...
Anyway, staying in tonight, just chilling ,watching the telly and maybe enjoy a couple of glasses of wine...
Regards,
Gordon

Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Well...We went to the nearest local bar last night and I stuck to my sin-alchol cerveza ,Mrs.B had red wine, she ordered the drinks while I was talking to someone....her excuse was that she forgot that she was supposed to be Not drinking Alcohol...!!!
Anyway 5 or is it 6 days now since I had any booze...

Gordon

Always amazed at the range of "sin" beers in the larger supermarkets.
I always have some in stock ( even in the UK, but range limited ).
Impossible to drink more than one though. However, a good thirst quencher on a hot afternoon.

Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Just a Technical note.............
sin alcohol = 1% alcohol , so Beni you must try harder and move to the one below.........
0,0 = 0% alcohol
Still you guys doing well staying on the wagon................
Recommend Galicia 0,0 ...

Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
I have a Confession to make....
On the last day of my 'training period' I had 3 glasses of Red Wine...Alcoholic ...
However I started on Saturday ( the official start of the campaign ), by only drinking sin alchol, and as Enrique points out many of the so called sin alchol drinks actually do contain 1%, so I made sure it was 0%..
I can drink a couple of sin alchol beers but then I'm bored with it so usually end up drinking tonic or water !!!
Anyway ....Hands Up anyone else who is supporting the cause....?
Oh Dear.....Hardly any... Well I hope that you are all at least cutting down....Remember it's better for your health ..!!
Have a Nice Careful Drinking Day Everyone..
Regards,
Gordon

Peter,
I've always supported the idea that a couple of glasses of red wine a day is as good as an apple a day !!!
Trouble is that glasses vary such a lot in size, but moderation is a must when drinking and eating...I would suggest...
By the way..for anyone interested, I'm still on target, although our local barman is most bemused at me drinking sin alchol beer ..!

Gordon

Agreed....2 glasses of Red a day works wonders...in a reasonable sized glass. Where we are currently staying in Malaga the local barman offers us small medium, large and extra large...choices, choices
I So Bella tis you

Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Wine is often a problem of quantity - for many years I had a job where I stayed away a lot in hotels, with a generous expense allowance "4-star or better". With a t-bone steak, or a goulash a half-bottle is not enough (I always worked and stayed alone) and a full bottle a tad excessive. I found few hotel restaurants would serve wine by the glass in those days - of any size!

My father always said a day without wine was like a day without sunshine. So even if it's only a glass or two, it's better than nothing!
Re: I'm Off Down to the Bar ....
Well....This week I've done really with my non drinking campaign, but tonight I'm going to have a few glasses of wine, I've been given special dispensation as it's Mrs B's birthday, I'm not allowed to mention her age , but she was born in 1946... ..Now I'm in Big trouble ..
This year we've both now celebrated 'big' birthdays and our Golden Wedding Anniversary....Next year I'm not celebrating anything ...
Anyway we'll be very pleased to see all of you virtual drinkers in the bar tonight and still warm enough to sit outside...
May I wish everyone a very pleasant evening...
Regards Gordon ( in the doghouse )..
