Ipad mini and internet.

Postby Evelyn » Wed Oct 04, 2017 7:32 pm

Im sure I have seen a few posts regarding ipads on this forum so I'll give it a go. I have an ipad mini(quite a few years old) and all day today it has been showing bad connection to the Internet. All my other devices are fine. I've tried all the usual things and short of a factory reset, which I really dont want to do , dont know what else to try. Any ideas anyone?

Older iPad Mini's are known to have relatively poor connectivity to wifi, unless signal strength is good.
Not sure about more recent ones.

In Settings, try deleting the network and re-connecting to it.

Its been fine, just playing up today. Tried re booting, resetting data and settings, and still the internet sign(in this case the "fan" )in the left hand corner is just going up and down.

How far away from the router are you?

Rebooting your Router may fix it

At half-strength signal displayed, it should be working ok.
You haven't changed a protective case on it recently, maybe?
If the router is providing a reduced signal, you can expect an iPad mini to drop out ahead of other devices.
Try it near someone else's wifi router, and see how it fares.

As I type this reply the internet shows full. However as I type it decreases then increases which is what it is doing at the moment. Just at a loss what to try next. Apple are worse than useless...faceless. Well I'll just keep trying, thanks for all your suggestions.

If your router is Dual Band try the other Band.
Download something like "WiFi Sweetspots" app from App store and analyse your signal etc to verify your on board wifi meter is accurate.

Hi Evelyn,
Find what version of iOS you're running.

Then Google search......... ipad mini "iOS version" wifi problems ..... replace "iOS version" with yours

Loads of procedures on how to fix.

" Apple are worse than useless...faceless."...........don't need to contact Apple.......info will be found on Web.........
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Try resetting the network setting - Settings - General - Reset - Reset network settings.

You could also try restoring to your backup.

Evelyn/Truebrit as someone suggested rather than waste hours testing trying various things just go to somewhere like a local internet cafe or library and see how your iPad responds on a different network dependant on result you'll then be able to swiftly identify whether it is your ipad or something else.

I also have an iPad Mini - No problems until they Apple launched the new OS 11 and more recently 11.02. Especially now trying to watch UK through TVCatchup via an Apple TV Box, it continually drops out, possibly down to the incompatibility of OS11 with the 3rd generation Apple TV Box.

The more I get to use Apple products, the less I like them. Poor build, indifferent performance, inadequate connections, and high pricing. The internet is awash with complaints from users, and support groups seem obliged to proliferate and step in to manage the chaos.

This is a personal view, of course, and I don't expect everyone to agree with it. If Microsoft were to have carried on like this, they would have gone out of business years ago. At least MS appears to be paying its taxes, where A is more intent on simply hyping up the next iPhone.

TorreDelAguila - Please no more Microsoft v Apple wars  But I blame Apple’s failings on the passing of Steve Jobs. Apple which was once the backbone of the creative industry has now jumped on the on the social networking bandwagon! I bet Steve Jobs is turning in his grave - Just my opinion of course.

Anyway my Update - Connected my Macbook Pro via HDMI to my tv to watch programmes via TVcatchup, same thing was happening like with the iPad. So Putting it down to my internet provider, Iberbanda, there are rumours that they are folding and the end of Summer whenever that is, however I’ve had no notification from them about it. One of the A.com threads on this subject refers to a statement made by Iberbanda on their English page.
