Hi everyone. I moved to Los Popones, just outside Velez Malaga in June, on my own, and now at last feel ready to venture out! I wondered if there were any local English speaking people who would be interested in meeting up, to practice Spanish, socialize, act?
I'm friendly, but feeling a little isolated out in the campo! Do please msg me if your interested, thank you so much.

If you fancy a drive out to Torrox Park just along the coast from you there are lots of brits in that area. Also TDM has a few brit bars. Just a thought but it may be a starting point.

Welcome to the forum - I am sure someone will be along soon from near your area.
If you are only just venturing out, suggest you find a comfortable spot in a bar or cafe not too far from your spot in the campo and watch the world go by first. Get hold of the local newspapers and see what is going on in the area - you will probably find something near Velez that you might find interesting. Ask around for the local animal rescue society (Protectora des Animales) if you have any interest or affinity with dogs, cats or donkeys???? They always need help and are often frequented, if not run, by ex-pats. A good way to find like-minded people with a common interest - and indeed any clubs you could join - what are your interests ... motorcycle fanatic, bridge player, golfer, tennista, rambler .... wine buff, cookery ...

If you pick up the monthly free mags there's details of clubs and associations in them (Insight, Market Place, Soltalk, to name a few). I have found over the years that joining in with those who you share an interest with is a great way to meet people and make friends.

Good advice from all of the above, however, if you are planning to be there permanently it would be in your interests to go local, meet the locals and learn some basic Spanish, you will need it in many bureaucratic situations not to say your standing with the locals will be much enhanced.
My Spanish is far from perfect, in fact to be honest it's more of a rudimentary level but improving every day, however it's very satisfying when you finally manage to have a general conversation and understand and be understood.
In the past I've found that sticking to ones own ethnic/language/cultural group can be very socially inhibiting, I remember when I lived in Calahonda (Mijas costa) for a spell in the nineties where a good percentage of the inhabitants were British they almost never mixed with the locals and fell into trap of being in a country of which they learned very little and only able to communicate will fellow Brits !
If you can't find a local, up and running exchange group why not create your own multi language meetup group whose common aim is to learn/improve your knowledge of the language, we have several here which I attend from time to time, we have Ghaneans, Italians, Brits, even some chinese and Russians, and a in particular a Scot who's knowledge of Spanish is top level but his diction is so heavily influenced by his Highland background that he's rarely understood on his first utterings, he's a good lad though and very poular, it's also a good tool for socialising and meeting new friends, good luck in your new home/environment.

There are websites that get people with common interests together. One type of group which maybe of interest is where skills are swopped. You could try to see if anyone wants to learn a little English while being prepared to help you with your Spanish
Typing in all your hobbies and interests might throw up various groups that might interest you.
If you google the words meetup, you will come up with a site popular around this part of Spain. Obviously, you will need to see if it’s there are groups near where you live.
