Jump leads/ booster cable.

Postby costakid » Wed Jul 03, 2019 7:44 am

Does anyone know if you can carry jump leads/ booster cables in your hand luggage on a flight. I have a really expensive set that I want to bring home but don't want them taking off me at security. Airport security have some bizarre rules on what you can carry regarding tools etc.

Hi costakid,

Could be bit of a grey area ...............

List of Tools..................

https://www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions/work-tools

I've bought small car parts (e.g Ball joints) through that had to be checked with supervisor.

If Jump leads really expensive probably best to mail them to yourself, or book yourself a case.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

I do not think this will work as cable be seen as dangerous like rope.
I have a collection of items that i need to put in a hold bag and will do some day.
ie Bottle 55%, Big hunting knife, kindof axe.
Don't ask me why i buy these things. Silly???

I tried to stick what electricals I could in wife's case and was told at check-in to get them out as they wanted them in hand luggage (annoyingly for me). Cables would probably be fine in hold, though.

Irrelevant, but mildly amusing. I was bringing a body control module out from M/C for an XK8 owner here. Asked what's in my bag, I replied, "the brains of a Jaguar" and the uniform instantly replied "Car or animal?" which I thought pretty sharp for them.

I rang easyjet. They have to be checked into the hold as non checked luggage. Collect from carousel other end.

That's interesting info, Costakid. It was a Jet2 op at Malaga's baggage desk who told me to get mine out, but said the hairdryer and tongs should stay in the case. Made no sense to me, and maybe it's made up on the spot, but best to check and follow their advice (fwiw). I found the actual .gov advice, which is actually not much:
https://www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restric ... ical-items

Bit like that Cool Hand Luke scene...
"What you doing, boy? I told you to fill that hole."
"I dunno, boss."
"What you doing, boy? I told you to dig that hole."
"I dunno, boss."
continue until airport closes at midnight...
