changing details in dog microchip

Postby morlandg » Sat Aug 03, 2019 12:46 pm

My son has a dog he obtained from the dog shelter. How does he alter the details on the microchip?

I believe his local vet should be able to do it online.
Didn't the dog shelter give any advice?

Cheers

Chip details cannot be changed. I think I paid 18 euros to have the new owners details registered at the local vets.

I'm sure Graham meant that he wanted the ownership details changed.
Sure you can't change the details i.e number coded onto the microchip.

I think that both the previous owner and the new owner have to sign a declaration before a vet. As the dog was obtained from a shelter they would, at least, have to provide a certificate or some kind of documentation so that the vet who changes the microchip can be satisfied that it has not been stolen.

Presumably the dog is microchipped? A rarity here for most animals that have been abandoned I should think.

Wouldn't it be easier to remove old chip and register a new chip to your pet by a vet.

However it is done the vet will still need some kind of evidence that the request for change of owner is legitimate especially if the animal is potentially valuable.
