Is Telefonica the best ADSL provider???

Postby petert74 » Tue Mar 28, 2006 10:13 am

Can anyone tell me if Telefonica the best ADSL provider??? At just under €40 it seem a bit steep especially for 1mb/1gb.

Ive had nothing but grief from Telefonica and Movistar so i always do my best to avoid them.

Ive been told that Wanadoo is up to 20mb but it may be restricted on use and downloads.

I need my PC to be on 24/7.

Does anyone know???

Telefonica own the physical network in Spain, so at the end of the day if you go with someone else and there is a problem they cannot sort you eventually have to go to telefonica to fix. I have had Telefonica ADSL for 2 years now and never experienced a connection problem so far (better touch some wood now).
Oh Yes! another day in paradise!

I used Telefonica for almost 10 years and also had there 40€ ADSL for 12 months and apart from the usual nightmare of getting the original connections, I didn't have a single problem with either service, there ADSL was excellent if a little pricey.

Peter,

Hate is the word that comes to mind when I think about that ***Telefonica! Especially after what they did with my ADSL (never reached me)

So I asked for JAZZTEL who are supposed to offer good ADSL. But I still dont have it in place, I will be able to advice on a couple of weeks (hopefully)

Maybe you are lucky enough to have the posibility of TELE2, they are just launching their new OWN LINES... You would need to call them and ask if they cover your area... Unfortunately they do not cover mine (Monda) I dont remember their number, but you can go to their webpage. You need NO TELEFONICA line with them...

Another vote for Telefónica from me. My ADSL rarely lets me down and, albeit after some considerable persuasion, they agreed to change my useless TRAC telephone for a landline a few years ago.

A vote from me as well. Perfect quality and speed on Telefonica ADSL. Any normal phone line problems have been sorted out in 2 hours.

I also think that you will find that with Tele2 it is Telefonica who still provide the physical lines unless Tele2 are going to lay a new cable for every user! If so it will be the same old problem about whos fault it is.

When the technician came over to rectify a problem, I tried speaking to them in Spanish but they wanted to practice their English.

i´d say that telefonica at the moment are the best provider for a landline phone, but there are some very good alternatives biting at their heels.

If you have access to ADSL2+ the 20Mb offerings from Jazztel or Wandoo, then I'd consider moving.

I would love to have an alternative to Telefonica, but I don't think there's a good one. The other offerings that are available do seem to have more problems. I have a 2Mb line which is an outrageous 70+€ a month, but despite my rural location I've had very few problems over the last 5 years of ADSL.

I've recently dicovered that although telefonica tell you that the ADSL router they supply has a 1 or 2 year warranty, they don't mention that you'd have to return it to the hardware supplier if you have a problem - worth checking the conitions.

I've just upgraded my package to cover router maintenance and fast recovery of line issues and I think its 8€ a month - if you need always on internet then it's not an unreasonable price to pay.

Ive been told that the 1mb that telefonica offers is going to be increased to 20mb very soon.

Will start off in Algerciras and go up the costa.

Has anyone heard the same???

Telefónica has doubled the ADSL speed twice over the past few years and it is possible they will do so again to 2mbps but I doubt if it will increase to 20 in one hit.
