TRAINS
TRAINS
Hi everyone,
Long time since I posted on this fórum, just wondered if anyone was aware that the Government plan to scrap the conventional trains "Media Distancia" which means the only trains available will be high speed AVE trains - this will affect Malaga - Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada. The original date that this was to happen was 23rd September, but they keep changing the date and it is now 1st December (oh, surprise, after the elections).
What this means is that the Andalucian villages in-between will have no train services. Various platforms have been putting up a fight, along with Mayors from Pedrera, Loja, La Roda, Bobadilla, etc. There was a manifestation in many cities of Andalucía last Saturday 26th Oct in defence of the train (among other protests for salaries, social services, firemen, carers, etc) and if anyone is interested there is a series of walks going on to protest, the next one is on Sunday 3rd November from La Roda to Pedrera. The final walk will be on 14th December. We are hopeful that the decisión can be reversed.
For a train service that is public and social.

Good Morning
Not too sure where you read this news about the Trains. Can you point me towards the article in question. I would be very worried about the Algecira,Ronda to Granada Train Line if that was the case.
Thank You
David

Re: TRAINS
David, you have reason to be worried. They are keeping it quiet because they don´t want people to react and protest. Once it is done, it will be very difficult to reverse, that is why all the marches / walks / protests are going on now. IF you go onto the www.renfe.es website, try booking a train after 1st December 2019.
I will find a link for you and attach here
Best regards

So as you can see, the trains will not stop in the little villages, the high speed train only stops in cities, Antequera, Seville, Granada, Malaga, Cordoba etc.

Re: TRAINS
There is a certain irony with this. We haven't had local or long distance trains at Loja for about two years. Now they are running again the plan is not to have them.
The ultimate irony is they ran into technical difficulties with the tunnel just near the Loja station and as a result the AVE trains have to crawl through it so a stop at the station wouldn't cost much time

Re: TRAINS
This was 2 months ago. Since then they changed the date twice, now from 1st December it will not be possible to use the "media distancia" trains.
As the last bit says, we could campaign to bring the Cercanías trains inland.

On the subject of trains;
Sorry to "borrow" the thread: The Tarjeta Dorada has now been changed to a" touch and go" type . Your old one will not work ( as we found out at the station the other day) You have to re-apply at a mainline, manned, station, pick up the application forms, fill them in and return them with also a current passport type photo and photocopy of some form of ID, Passport, Residents certificate, dni etc. Re-apply, pay another years subs and any time left of your old card will added on. Don't think they like passengers much!!
Back to Media Distance Trains. Do you think they are going to do away with the broad gauge system entirely and this is the beginning? Seems to be pointing that way.

The 4th march to defend the trains will be this Saturday 16th November at 9.30 from Pedrera Station.

Re: TRAINS
I must admit to panicking when I read this. I sent an email to renfe for clarification but their reply was inconclusive. Anyway, I just checked now on their web-site for the middle of December and can confirm the MD Cadiz Sevilla services are still timetabled including, for me, the all important airport stop.
Saludos

Re: TRAINS
Hope that someone can update me (we are in the UK at the moment) from local knowledge on the ground.....
I understood that the MD trains - between Malaga and Marchena for example - were to cease operating after 1 December? But they still seem to be timetabled on the RENFE website?
Any thoughts welcomed
Muchos gracias
Vincent

Re: TRAINS
I see that Spain is to reduce its AVE train fares. Piloting Madrid to Barcelona from April as not enough folk using them due to air fares being cheaper. Intend to roll out if this is successful
Re: TRAINS
Vinnie, they have changed the date for ceasing the trains yet again, now it Will be 8th January 2020.

Such a shame that this is happening to these small communities. A minor inconvenience for us, but a very difficult problem for the locals and the tourists. Heigh ho.......

Wondered (from afar!) if the trains had stopped on 8 January are predicted?
