iOS Android version

Postby Parilla » Wed Dec 11, 2019 12:05 pm

Can anyone tell a tech luddite how to find out what iOS version my Samsung phone uses. I have looked at several websites telling me how to find the answer in "settings" but the results are nothing like the instructions say they will be.

Hi parilla,
What is the model of Samsung phone :?:

You really have iOS on Phone :?:

For Android version OS..................

From the Homescreen tap the Apps button or swipe up/down to view apps

Open the Settings application

Scroll to the bottom to find About Device or About Phone

Scroll down to find Android Version
Alternatively, you may have to select Software Information to view Android Version

There isn't an IOS version of Android.
IOS is the operating system that iPhone or iPads use so you need to disregard it.

Hi costakid,
"isn't IOS only Apple?".........although some hacks have tried to get it working on other systems.

Suspect the OP has looked up find version on iOS and tried to match it to Android..........

Thanks folks. The penny is beginning to drop - I have misunderstood, but claim this is due to terrible grammar and punctuation skills of the journalists writing the articles I read. It is not the iOS (whatever that may be) I need to know, but the Android equivalent which I assume will be called something else though I don't know what.

My phone is a Samsung J3 which I think I bought it in 2017, and whatever it is I am looking for I am hoping will be more recent than " 2.3.7" . Am I making any more sense now, and if so can anyone help me find the holy grail ?

Good morning Parilla,
The facts.
Some times the Operating System (OS) is referred to by name...........

Samsung J3 2017 July on........... Android 7.0 (Nougat), 8.0 (Oreo), upgradable to Android 9.0 (Pie)

To find your OS Version..............with pictures.............. :D

First
Follow Nougat link............if that doesn't look the same as your phone drop back to marshmallow link as J3 originally came out (2016)with version 5.1.1

Parilla
Does your question relate to the fact that Whatsapp will stop working for Android OS vers 2.3.7 and older in 2020?
Vers 2.3.7, known as Gingerbread, was released in 15 Sep 2011 so is a very old OS.
As Enrique has said, Samsung J3 came out with vers 5.1.1.
So don't worry you are OK.
Cheers
Gerry

Thanks again all. Followed your directions Enrique, and I am it appears a 9.0 which seems to be more than adequate to avoid the chop. Yes, Gerry, I can now forget about finding a replacement for WhatsApp, or a replacement phone.
