Olive Press

Postby costakid » Wed Sep 09, 2020 6:44 pm

Is anyone else having problems reading the Olive Press. I keep getting a pop up asking me to register or pay a fee. I think they may have a virus as this morning the whole site was in Chinese.

Yes, you now have to pay to view the online site.

It is popping up with that but then it clears and you can view for free. I think they have a problem with the site.

I just called them. Yes it is now €60 per annum subscription but they are having problems also. They knew they had a problem but hadn’t been informed until now of the Chinese problem.
Not sure how many will take up the subscription when other papers are free online.

As soon as the Chinese script came up I closed down.
Get fed up of all the papers going on subscription, diario Sur too. Same in UK. Can read some as a member of local Library site but most are magazines.

I don't subscribe to any newspapers but i can see why some people may wish to do so and especially those who are no longer living in the Uk..Due to covid19 news publications are probably jumping on the band wagon to take advantage of the new high number of readers while they can and get them on subscription.

But is the journalism any good? It's usually spot on with up-to-date stories, but never covered in-depth, often leaving more questions that answers it gives!
Compare with Sur in English which annoyingly has unchanged content day after day.
I reckon that surfing between those two and El Pais in English, just about gives some reasonable information.
Any others that anyone would recommend?

To tempt me the subscription for anything would need to be around the euro a month mark.

They would need to pay me to read their utter garbage and misinformation.

The olive press has some very useful information in it. Not saying the news is accurate but helpful info.
