I have used a dvd cleaner to try and rectify the problem but that is no good, when i use it the problems stand out.

Noisy clicking sound after it has been running for a couple of mins, it then pauses and makes a whirring noise for a few seconds before jumping ahead to catch up with itself, when i play films sometimes it sticks for ages and then stops.

I did take it to the local tv repair shop in the village and he cleaned it and tested it and made no difference, he suggested it goes to a Daewoo dealer.
Hope this helps.

mosdt of the problems we've encountered , and successfully fixed, even an ancient (by dvd standards) machines have been related to the laser, which needs cleaning. The whirring sounds are possibly something else, and even if the machine cost a fortune when you bought it, it may well not be worth fixing as repairs could be expensive, as i would assume it is no longer under guarantee.
To clean the laser is a fairly simple process requiring correct size screwdriver(s), cotton buds, and nailvarnish remover or similar alcohol based product. remove the cover, laser should be easy to spot, but occasionally there is a 2nd box inside which needs removing , and clean laser with a damp bud. As lasers heat up, they collet dust and it burns on causing numerous problems, including inability to correctly read the disc, jumping and restarting. Using this method, we have successfully cleaned several dvd players, (some thought fit for the dustbin!!) PC dvd and CD drives, bit nmore complex as more moving parts and first need to be removed from machine, and PS 1 and 2.
Have atry and see if it solve the problem, if not, then it may be time for a new one and even really good ones with sound systems are relatively cheap nowadays, which probably makes repair not cost efective.

I agree with spanish lad; there is no way you can get a DVD repaired for less than a new one.

Remember that everything that Fred Astaire did, Ginger Rogers did too; except she did it backwards and wearing high heels!

If you read the original message it is a Home Cinema System which normally includes a built in DVD player. You can't buy these for £20.

Thanks for the help Nikvin.
What would you recomend to clean the laser with, don't want to mess it up using wrong type of cleaner.

The ones I have seen are usually a combined DVD player with a 6 channel amplifier and often a VHF radio tuner - all in one box. They also come with all the speakers so it isn't necessarily a question of just buying a new box for £20.

If it's a simple problem like a dirty laser it might well be worth repairing.

Meths or pure alcohol can be used to clean the lens. It has to evaporate without residue.

Hi.

I tried cleaning the laser on a combined vhs/dvd player we bought 15 months ago from Olmo but it didn't work. Cost of repair €40 for parts + labour. Since we only used the sodding thing less the a dozen times I don't think I'll bother.

Mhic.
