House Insurance

Postby gruff » Mon Jan 18, 2021 6:34 pm

Would it be fair to say house insurance is a lot dearer in Spain than the U.K? I've been recommended Liberty for my holiday home and a bit shocked at the quote.

I suspect holiday home insurance because it could be empty most of the year, is dearer than permanent home insurance which is likely to be occupied most of the year.

Hi gruff,
You may get the price down if there is a key holder and someone visits weekly. Had this on a remote Property last year.

Get a price for more than one company. Much like car insurance sometimes what you want to insure doesn't suit what a given company wants to insure.

This is like confused.com and searches many companies.

I found liberty to be more expensive when looking for different insurance quotes.but they have a good rep amongst friends. So.... get different quotes like paddy says. Linea directa etc

A good reputation amongst Spanish insurance companies means a lot!

Last insurance we took out for our holiday home (in 2019) was with Insurance for Holiday Homes & it was just under £450 - dn't know how this compares with your quotes ?

Liberty here and totally satisfied. Three claims in the last twelve years for wind damage, all settled in full, quickly and to our complete satisfaction.

Chrissie, I've been quoted 280 euros. Compared to £450 looks very good. Just that the insurance for my house in Wakefield is much less. As previously said I suspect because it is a holiday home.

Beware of Linea Direct - Excellent on car insurance claims, diabolical on home insurance claims.

Been going through the details, looks very comprehensive but can see no mention of excess. Surely there must be some?

280€ is similar to what we pay for our house and contents insurance here with Liberty. This is our full time home and is in the Campo.

Just had our quote from LD for home insurance renewal. 330euros. Got a quote from Sabadell who came bac with 195euros... Plus no further bank charges for taking out their insurance. Win win it seems.
