surplus books,clothes etc charities
surplus books,clothes etc charities
We are having a bit of a Spring Clean. Bit early, I know.
Got maybe 200 paperbacks(e.g. James Patterson) and another 100 reference books. Are they just paper recycling skip material? Can't imagine car boots re opening anytime soon. Do animal shelters take them?
Question for Gordon. Is there still an animal shelter in Loja area? We have quite a bit of surplus cat and some dog paraphanalia that they could use.
We haven't got to clothes yet but I suspect they will have shrunk in the wardrobes and no longer fit. Are there any good charities that re use ( sell on/hand out) serviceable clothing? I am reluctant to put good stuff in the street depositries after reading(possibly wrongly) it is just chavelled up and made into low grade fibres.

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.
Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
Charity shops would certainly take the books but the problem is finding one that is currently allowed to open.

Hola
Our charities now don't accept books whether hard back or paperback; they were inundated with them and tried to sell them off at five for one euro !!!

Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
We have been having some building work done and I have had a massive clear out of things including books. A few went to friends in the area. A very few went in the paper recycling. A few are marked for the village library at some stage. Most are boxed and stored for when I can get them to the second-hand shop.
I hope Gordon is just reading and not posting at the moment ...

Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
Just heard back from Gordon - he his wife are well, but he says:
"I've not been able to post on Acom. because I'm locked out, sent loads of emails to the administrator's, but no response at all. Perhaps I've been banned, !"
So now we know - maybe this will remind Admin to do somethng about it
Edit - Gordon's smiley came out huge, so I've swapped it for a normal one

Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
Admin says that Benidorm contacted them on Sunday and have replied. His account is active but the email address they have on record is an older one than the one he is currently using and that if he has forgotten his password he may not be able to recover it.
Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
Well at least he is ok. good news.
Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
Could he not join under another name? Eg Benidorm2.

Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
I think the problem arose with changing his email address. A password reset cannot be sent to a new email address that is not registered with a.com. if he still has access to his old email address the password resest may be accessible there.
If the problem is that he is using what he knows to be his correct password and still cannot gain access that is a different matter. He and admin are in communication with each other so I am sure that they will be able to resolve it. If not, as Katy said, he could rejoin with another username.

Re: surplus books,clothes etc charities
Olive,
I'm a bit 'out of touch' with what's happening with the dog charity, so can't give any update.
I've also been clearing out lots of unwanted 'stuff' and I'm saving it to give to whatever charity is in need when calmer waters are reached.
I'm already storing charity stuff for other people and have room in my bunker for more if anyone needs to move stuff on quickly.
Regards,
Uncle Bulgaria....

Thanks everyone. Glad that you are still chugging along Gordon.
I’ll ask around in Loja about the animal shelter. We have seen quite a few abandoned dogs since Christmas. I will put stuff aside waiting for the day when we can actually take them anywhere.
PS never seen a charity shop in Spain. Maybe led too much of a sheltered life!

Thanks Olive ...
I'm sure that when the charity shops can reopen they will need more stock so good if anyone could save their unwanted items for awhile.
There is an active animal rescue charity 'GPAR' in Rute they have a shop and do carboot sales when they can, there are also at least a couple of charity stalls operating at the Hotel Saydo ( Mollina ) weekly market and the carboot sale which has been monthly but may start weekly when they can.
I'm sure that they would all be glad of stock soon ..
Regards,
Gordon
