Digital Certificate Advice

Postby AkoAko » Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:32 am

The wife and myself obtained Digital Certificate's 5th June 2017 without any problems and have been using them right up to June this year . We received an email to say the one my wife had was expiring in a month and to follow the instructions to renew it .

I have tried literally dozens of times to renew the one for the wife online but the process failed every time , used different browsers , different Laptops , everything already had the expiring Certificates on , never received the email with the new certificate so gave up in the end .

Now we want to have them again , do we start from scratch or is there anything we can do regarding the expired ones . Wil having the expired ones or not renewing them mess up a fresh application .

Any thoughts , advice or experiences of the same would be very much appreciated .

I would just apply for new ones as the process is now so easy.

When I had incorrectly saved my DS after changing computers I simply started again and re-applied. I used this link
https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/en/certifi ... ona-fisica
and it was pretty straightforward.

From my notes you click on Obtaining a software certificate,
then Previous considerations

When you get through to the page where you enter your details:
Enter you NIE and Surname only then your email
Click on blue link and tick accept conditions box, then Send

That's if it hasn't changed since I did it a couple of years back.

Thanks both , will follow your advice and apply for a new one .

I thought i would check my own as although its used once in a blue moon i expected to have a renewal email for that also as both wife and mine were done on the same day . For some reason mine is valid until 22nd January , 6 months later than the wife , maybe because we use hers almost weekly it got worn out sooner LOL .

Had a go at renewing mine now online but just gives list of errors , doesn't say which one is applicable but probably because its still valid for over 2 months but not a big deal , will deal with it in the new year either online if it lets me or start afresh with that one also .

I am already confused! I have a Chromebook and following the page Wicksey posted the link to, I'm not sure how to proceed. I downloaded the software but it says I don't have Windows so it isn't compatible. Help!

Hi IreneD,

Do you already have a current Digital Signature on a Windows system.......... :?:

If so you can Export it to Google Drive and Import it from Google Drive on the Chromebook.

Hi Enrique, I was hoping you'd spot my plea, thank you for replying. No, this is the first time I've tried to get one. I've been Googling and others have been unable to get it on their chromebook. My old laptop, which is windows, is still limping along. Would you suggest I try to get it on there? It's annoying because I only recently got the chromebook and am really pleased with it. My OH has an ancient laptop with LInus on it, I'm going to see how I get on with trying to get him the digital certificate later.

Hi IreneD,

Use your Windows laptop to Get the Digital Signature and then Export it to Google Drive and import on ChromeBook.

Clean Disk space up the "limping" along Laptop.......also In Task Manager --> Startup......see what starts on boot up and Disable any programs you only use occasionally.

The other Laptop .........what is the version of Linux.... :?:

There were reasons OH took Windows off his laptop.... but I'll tell him what you advise. We both plan to change our green residencias for TIEs and it seemed like a good idea to do the digital certificate thing, too. But it may be beyond us :? . Thanks very much for your advice, Enrique.

Hi IreneD,

To obtain a Digital Signature is very straight forward.............

https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/en/certifi ... o-software

Use your Chrome browser on Windows

Download the Software

Have to hand ........and fill in details.

NIE
Surname
Email Address

Print off the Notificacions FNMT Page from the email that has the Unique ID Number

Look up where your nearest Local Office is located......beware that the List may/is not be up to date so have a second location to hand
Ours is located in the Town Hall
I took copies of Passport, Green Form, NIE..........None of these were needed !........pre-Brexit days
They only needed Passport and the Printed email page.......no copies made at the office
Sign a Form keeping a copy and come away. They will Email the next part of the Application Procedure.

Fire up your browser and Follow link that is in this email

I used same Email address for both our applications.

Install your shiny new Digital Signature/s and check its in "Manage Certificates"... (Chrome)

Check it works by going to ...........

https://www.agenciatributaria.gob.es/AE ... icio.shtml

NOW BACKUP your Certificate/s........Give a meaningful name and Password......
Make at least three Copies and locate on different systems/Media

Copy one to Google drive goto your Chromebook and Import on Chrome Browser.........check it's loaded ok.

That's it............what are you waiting for........... :D

That's so nice of you to go to all that trouble, Enrique! That really is an idiot's guide to the process, which we badly need :D

But..... are we a couple of steps down from your average idiot  I will let you know! Thanks again, you're a star!
