Hello, We are travelling from the Uk to Spain for a a holiday in the mountains near Torrox. I have poor mobility and very low energy reserves so when I do manage to get out and about (I may have to stay in the villa a lot), getting a parking space close to where we need to be will be important. I have a scooter, and will bring that, but if for instance we were going to a restaurant, or beach, ideally I’d walk from car to restaurant/beach if less than 100M, so as not to have to find a place for the scooter to be stored.
I am bringing my blue badge and I’ve been told by Malaga tourist info that it’s recognised, but advised to speak to local Malaga police (‘However, we recommend that once you arrive in our city, you go to the municipal tourist office, located in the Plaza de La Marina, historic center, where there is a special department of the local police for tourists.’) for further explanation of where we can or can’t park. When we arrive in Malaga it will be late at night and don’t plan on returning to Malaga until we go home. Can anyone offer advice or at least calm my nerves by telling me parking won’t be too much of an issue? We’ve only been to France before and parking was always so easy but I’m guessing in tourist areas in July/august, it may not be quite as simple. I’m assuming we will have to pay regardless of it being a disabled spot?
Much appreciated, Debbie

Re: Blue Badge parking in Torrox, Nerja & locality
Can easily get confused, as the time limited parking is also blue, however in Torrox Costa, Torrox Pueblo and Nerja it is my observation that the blue 'disabled' parking spots are all over and they are well observed by which I mean not used by non-badge holders. They are free.
Blue bays for the time limited need a clock which costs a euro, different clocks for the Costa and Pueblo 1hr in the Pueblo and 2hr on the Costa.
After getting the clock the parking is free.
The limited time parking for the Costa is only July and August while that in the Pueblo is all year.
May be wrong but I don't believe there is any scheme for time limited parking in Nerja but there 'Disabled' boxes.

I think you will be OK in proper disabled parking bays, but I would be careful about parking on other areas where parking is not normally allowed even though a Spanish blue badges might allow it.
UK blue badges are allowed but only as a concession after Brexit. They are much more difficult to get in Spain compared to the UK.

I think in the main underground car park in central Nerja there are disabled parking bays. Parking is a nightmare in Nerja at the best of times so I probably wouldn't try driving around the town in search of a blue disabled space in a side street. I don't know if googling (perhaps in Spanish) for disabled parking bays may show where there are. The pavements outside of the pedestrianised areas are narrow so not sure how easy it would be on a mobility scooter. Torrox Costa has a good long prom and is easier and there are some bays at the bottom of the roads that lead down to it. I am aware of these issues myself having had a trapped nerve in my back a few years back. I couldn't walk well for about 4 months and used a wheelchair to start with. You soon find that there are quite a few places that are hard to access.
There are a huge number of bays at the El Ingenio shopping centre and it is easy and accessible.

Thanks all very helpful, many thanks for all your replies. Ideally I suppose I need confirmation from the police that I can park in a disabled bay with my blue badge and don’t risk any kind of fine, but it sounds positive . Much appreciated.

I don’t think you will have problems with the police and a UK badge but I wish you luck finding a blue card space.
