Air Conditioning

Postby hillybilly » Thu Jul 27, 2006 7:57 pm

Yes, I know it's the wrong time of year but I'm finally giving in (3rd summer). Has anyone seen (recently) aircon (wall) units on offer anywhere like Eroski, Carrefour....?

I was in B&Q today over on this crowded island and bizarrely there is 20% off all air conditioning! Thought it was amusing considering the weather we have been having. Have a look on diy.com

Air Con

Postby kexon » Fri Jul 28, 2006 4:18 pm

Hi Hillybilly Eroski in Moron de la Frontera and in Osuna, in Moron there's a sign offering installation for €150, I presume that's for a complete installation.
The units are €198 for one model and €219 for the other. Just had three connected for €100, but I had to put them on the walls and make the holes through the walls.

Air conditioning I understand, but would anyone put central heating in place in a new build say 30 miles inland. Would it be needed in Dec / Jan / Feb ?

Would it be better to just plug-in a stand alone radiator ?. In the same vein, any need for a fireplace ?

We've gone in December and January - we have an open firepleace indoors and 2 plug in heaters for a small 2 bed cottage and a warm duvet - it was fine.. not sure many people go for central heating in Spain. We are also inland.

It really depends where and how high up you are. I live 40km from the coast (of Valencia), we get snow most winters and have several days of freezing temperatures. I also have a house in the mountains in Jaen and it hit -22ºC winter before last.
Although you can live without cental heating and most of my Spanish neigbours do, I wouldn't.

We live 50 miles due north of Malaga. I would say yes, definitely central heating if it's on offer. It does get cold and damp here in the winter. The houses are not designed to cope and unless you buy plenty of rugs your feet will be permanently freezing. We have a large wood-burner, electric units which do aircon and heating, electric blanket and a push-around gas fire and it's still cold! I suppose we are 570m above sea level but whoever expects inland Andalucia to be warm all year round is in for a shock!

:) We live in Pizarra at about 750 feet above sea level and only 35 mins drive from Malaga Airport ; we put CH in as we rebuilt our Cortijo and damm pleased we have been with it, especially in the bedroom for dressing/undressing and the bathrooms. We have a Woodburner in the livingroom which takes main stage during the winter but on the shoulder months low CH is perfect. Yes I would recommend it if it is an option.

As far as AirCon is concerned...we manage with good quality Ceiling Fans, AirCon is a bit too sweaty for us, the fans are silent and just purrrfect in the bedroom

Air Conditioning

Postby kexon » Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:00 pm

:The temperature on average drops by approx 1degree for every 100 metres in altitude above sea level, thats why some people living at a higher altitude do not need air con and some of us in seville province do!wink:

Are these air-cons that also provide heating very efficient? They are heat pumps so they should be but I'm not so sure.....
Brian.
