Competa - painting houses white

Postby dmw » Tue Aug 22, 2006 11:46 am

Hi,

i've heard that all houses in Competa have to be painted white by September. we are in the process of buying a townhouse there, but it is too late to add a clause to the contract stipulating that the vendor should ensure that the house is painted before we complete.

does anyone know any more information on the deadline, and who in enforcing the new rule? and how are they going to check whether it has been painted this week, last week or last year if the paint job is still looking good?!?

all info very gratefully received.

Do you mean all the houses in the village have to be painted by september or only houses that are not painted white at the moment.
EG painted terracotta or yellow.

Paint white

Postby soegaard » Tue Aug 22, 2006 6:57 pm

Well, my house is white like 99.9% of the houses in Competa. It will not be painted before September ;-)
I have read the Town Hall newsletter "Voz de Competa" (the English version) all year and never seen a word about the white paint.
You can reach the Town Hall via this web site http://www.compets.es
Councillor Maria Kupers does speak English.

It might be a confusion with Frigiliana. I read an article in one of those free newspapers saying that residents there had to paint their houses white every year. How tedious eh. Our house is white in many places, but green in those hard to reach spots.

How can they order anyone to paint their house every year? our last repaint cost 8000 euros!

For 8000 it should last forever!

I had a 3 bed house painted with "one year paint" for 400 euros a couple of years ago. Took one day by two lads with a big roller.

For those that don't understand the technical terms, "one year paint" is the cheapest stuff you can buy diluted 50% with water.

Goes on quick - lasts 12 months.

Cal is even cheaper!

HI, HOPE THIS IS OF USE, I WAS IN COMPETA TWO WEEKENDS AGO AND DID READ ONE OF THEIR LOCAL ENGLISH MAGS AND IT DID STATE THAT ALL "TOWNHOUSES" HAD TO BE PAINTED WHITE BY ORDER OF THE LOCAL COUNCIL I BELIEVE, NOT SURE BY WHEN THOUGH. HOWEVER IT DID STATE THAT HOUSES NOT UP TO STANDARD WOULD BE ISSUED WITH A 10% FINE (10% OF THE ESTIMATED REPAINTING COSTS) HOPE THIS IS OF USE, BUT PLEASE CONFIRM SAME WITH THE LOCAL COUNCIL, BEST REGARDS.

I spoke to the town hall yesterday, and the ruling will be applied only to those houses that ARE NOT ALREADY PAINTED WHITE.

I think its a good rule, wish it would apply here. don't mind some but others look distinctly deep orange, some around here stand out like a sore thumb/carbuncle.
