Great.
Good luck and many happy years.

may I ask how old Solysombra, and when did you know/think/aim that this age would be "retirement" (just interested really in when people THINK they will retire and when they actually do....)

enjoy it.....

Many congratulations, and best wishes for a long and happy retirement. You will be a jubilado in Spain, which I think is a fantastic term, so much better than 'pensioner'!

As for the age people think they will retire and the age they actually do, claire4james, my stated intention is to retire at age 50 and I have another 9.5 months to achieve it - depending on whether I can find someone to buy my house before I turn 51. When I was asked to set my objectives for 2006-2007 at work recently, that came top of the list but I don't think my boss was too impressed!

Claire4james, I turned 60 in April,.
I didn't consciously plan for this until about 15 years ago, I started to earn decent money and was advised by a friend to seriously think about putting a large part of my income into a pension fund rather than give it to the taxman.
we ( my wife and I, inherited some property from a now deceased friend and we invested that, consequently we have had no serious financial challenges, mortgage etc for a good number of years, seven years ago I made the final arrangements for my retirement and here I am.

Good for you! Hope you will REALLY retire, not like my dad who is 66 and is still working for his client in the UK (although supposedly retired to Spain!) and has now asked me to come on board as he has too much work!! Good for me, but not for my mum who is fed up of the whole situation with my dad continually working.......!!!!

Enjoy!

returement

Postby meseta » Thu Aug 24, 2006 7:18 am

It's interesting what various folks consider to be retirement.

I came here, we live near Alhaurin de la Torre, with the intention of retiring from my lifelong career at the age of 50. I have now started up another business and although I can now be more selective about the quantity of work I no longer consider myself retired.

So what is retirement ? Is it "The point in life where one has given up full time work. "
thanks to http://www.clericalmedical.co.uk/Busine ... ossary.asp

Friends tell me that in some instances they are doing more after 'retirement' than before !

So lets have some 'what does retirement mean to you' type ideas.

I am now offically retired, thanks for all your good wishes, since friday I've bought a sports bicycle, sort of halfway between a mountain bike and racing bike, and a set of second hand golf clubs, I'm relishing this :P

Thank you ALL for your good wishes, but Babby, I have to say I am not your average pensioner, I go to rock concerts, drink copious amounts of Newcastle brown, ride a motorcycle and I have long (ish) hair, although I might need a blue rinse soon, Beachdragon, hang in there 8)

Retirement age is 65 in Spain, not 60 so you have a few years yet until you are an OAP in Spain. Once you are 65 there are all sorts of free passes etc that you can apply for but alas you do have to be 65
