Going rate for olive logs

Postby dawncl » Wed Sep 27, 2006 10:00 am

I use olive logs for heating in my casa in Alcaudete.

Anyone give me an idea what the going rate for 2000kg of olive logs is?

I have paid about 150 euro.

I got them from a little guy in the bar where the olive farmers tend to hang out.

Is there formal dealers / log merchants or is it all 'Find a man'.

If they are good and dry then that's a good price. I was paying 12ptas/kilo year before last.

Going rate for olive logs

Yep.

Already made the mistake of getting half a load of wet root with some pine logs mixed in, the pine wood burnt so fast I thought I was head stoker on a steam train.

When I started burning the root I thought it smelt great but when I got up next morning and all the tar / sap had ozzed out of the flue joints and the house smelt like it had just been crearsoted I realised wet olive root is not a good fuel.

If 2000kg equates to a full load on a bakkie then this sounds about right although you would be better off burning a mixture of almond and gum tree, with the added advantage of differing heat loads.

In Alcaudete we have olive trees, olive trees and then some olive trees.

The only other wood is the occasional broken pallet laying on the roadside at the industrial estate or an occasional bow from a pine tree.

On a more seroius note
has anyone gone for solar energy, water / electricity or this thermal enery where they take the heat from the ground?

And I'm supposed to know that how? Your quote is from another thread.
