Real Christmas Tree

Where can I buy a real Christmas Tree - I live near Granada and usually the local florist sells them but he says that they were too expensive this year so he hasn't got any in.

last year ours cost 12 euros.

Here in Ottawa, Canada, they START at about $25. (That would be around 16-17 Euros) Price goes up from there with the size of the tree.

I use an artificial tree.

I've just bought one in a pot at the garden centre in Loja, 5ft ish and it cost 35 euro (reduced from 50!!!). I got a cut one last year from Alama de Granada market which cost 15 but haven't seen any so far this year, there may be some tomorrow

Our local Eroski has trees about 5 foot tall for Euro 7.50

However, although we always had a real tree in the UK, after several Christmases here with fallen needles before the 25th last year we bought a very realistic artificial tree. Also from Eroski - 2.5 meters tall and cost Euro 39 - looks great and NO needles; bliss!!!

Which side of Granada are you? All the garden centres around Antequera have them in - potted with roots. The one on the Antequera - Cordoba road had a large selection on Tuesday

Really no choice. You could go out to a tree farm and pay to be allowed to cut your own. But you can't just go out into the country, trespass on someone's property and cut down a tree. That could end up costing one H**L of a lot more than buying a tree (lawyers fees etc).
Ottawa (note spelling) is a city of 750,000. No trees available for cutting within the city.

According to all the posts in different threads I thought all you posters were enivronmentally aware. Whats wrong with an artificial one? go on save the planet or at least buy one with roots to replant.

Thanks for the spelling lesson, I made my very tongue in cheek remark because I have a cousin, married to a swede, apparently in the province of Skåne it's a national sport to steal one from your neighbours land, then your neighbour will steal one from your land and so it goes, all harmless fun really

Just paid £30 in the UK for a beautiful 8ft blue spruce. They tend to hang onto their needles (though finding needles in the carpet months later is part of the masochistic fun of a real tree) It also smells wonderful. Grown as a sustainable crop, biodegradable, it will be composted afterwards. Didn't use energy to manufacture it and it won't stay forever in a landfill site when finished with. Its all a matter of choice.

None of our past nordic spruce super deluxe Christmas trees have biodgraded or been turned into John Innes number 3, the binmen won't take the feckers when we've put them out.

Our local council also do their bit, with collection points for "used" Christmas trees....... if they don't fit in the garden wheelie bins. They sell the resulting compost back to the general public. Katie, you don't have to believe in "this composting thing" for ME to know I do my bit all year round.

Any hints or tips from successful composters in Spain would be appreciated ........... it's certainly different to here in damp/wet UK
