Holiday lets - strange requests.
I'm sure there must be others who rent out their homes during the summer but I'm curious as to whether its just us who seem to get all the daft questions/requests?
So far this year:
Q. Do the beds have duvets or blankets?
A. You can have either. Why?
Q. I suffer from arthritis so want to put the duvet under the sheet as Spanish mattresses are too hard.
A. I wouldn't - you'll melt. Anyway, it has an English mattress.
Q. I read on your brochure that you can hear the sounds of goat's bells in the distance, what time do they get up?
A. Eh?
Q. I am thinking of booking in July. Will it be hot?
A. Most likely.
Q. Can you guarantee it?
A. Not really. Statistically it tends to be quite warm at this time of year.
Sometimes I wonder if these people really want to holiday abroad but if anyone has some better ones, feel free to share them.

How do you rent your house out?. What I mean is a freind hinted if him and his family could use ours last year for a couple of weeks, we made excuses and didn't let them have it, the reason being.........
What do you do with all your personal stuff, ie wardrobes are full of our clothes, and theres all sort's of persoal bits scattered about.
The chap who looks after pool for us said we could get top dollar for it during the summer etc., but we've never bothered because of this issue.
What do other folks do?

Mum frequently has the following comment after the 8km track road journey to her house: We didn't realise that it would be so far into the countryside...her ad states '8km of dirt track from main road' and 'Very rural setting'! What do people expect! Also she gets 'I thought the pool would be more private'. The ad states 'private pool shared with owners'. There is only my mum and dad living there!

We have one of the wardrobes with a lock on, and keep our personal stuff in there.Campo Kenny wrote:How do you rent your house out?. grass is always greener
The problem with our place is although we have lots of wardrobe space none of my gear manages to get a place in them........they're full
I have a wobbly clothes rail in the spare bedroom with all my finery dangling from it.
I tell a small lie, one of my shirts she likes to wear when she gets out of the pool has a parking spec in one of them

I use a couple of sites where you can build your own websites and promote those in local media in the UK. I also use an agency that specialises in rural type property who do an excellent job, although they do take a fair whack.Campo Kenny wrote:How do you rent your house out?. As far as personal effects, I built a shed behind the goatshed which has a lock on the door and we have a special hiding place for food etc. It depends on the type of property you have but generally I've found no problem with clients mainly due to it being out of the price range of chavs who are more likely to damage things. They're also less likely to want to stay out in the campo where there's less lager to get trashed on whilst vomiting on the pavement.
It helps with the upkeep of the property but don't expect to become a millionaire out of it. Once tax and maintenance has been taken care of then you are probably left with half of the income but it does help with the mortgage. I also offer it to the tradesmen I deal with in the UK for some nudge, nudge, wink, wink type holidays.
PM me if you want the website addresses.
Thanks for the tips there Faire. Fully agree with you re. the Chavvy type not wanting to rent a country property but you still get @rse***s in all walks of life.
Because we are only out there 10 weeks max per year people keep on saying to us "rent it out", but we just don't seem to do it.
A business partner of my wife has a nice place at Vinuela. Similar to the story above he described his pool as private, the morons who were renting complained it was overlooked by a house further up the hill (probably 400 metres away) and wanted their money back under the description of goods act (the owner is a lawyer by the way)
It's those stories that put me off.................I'd just lose it I'm afraid if that happened.
It does certainly make sense though to do something with it whilst it lies empty for 42 weeks a year .....the jury's out still on this one for us!
Cheers,
Kenny

renting
Friends of mine shut off a bedroom and put all their personal belonging in to it, so it solves the problem of your items, but i wouldn't want anyone sleeping in my bed, not if i didn't need the money, the though its just awful, that's one of the reasons we bought a , bed you don't know who slept or done what in before you Hanging

Kenny, you don't have to explain to me - must be a Scouse thing. (Scouse by marriage only, BTW - I'm actually a Yid)
We had this a few years back from a nice young lady from Madrid: "Should I bring my own matress? It's no problem, I can put it on the roof of the car."
Bless!

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often
