I have just heard today that my request to be excused being President of the local polling station has been refused. Apparantly being unable to speak Spanish is not a good enough reason.
There is going to be some fun and games on Sunday; I am going to forget every little bit of spanish I do know, and it is going to be chaos here in La Cala.

Remember that everything that Fred Astaire did, Ginger Rogers did too; except she did it backwards and wearing high heels!
I would like to vote but I can't
Strange things happening here in Almeria. Some people have managed to register OK and are on the voting list others, us included) have been told sorry you're not on the list but you can vote in 2011 or in European elections
This has happened in several towns, one missed 54 people of the list and their town clerk has received a warning. Co-incidentally all those left off the register are British residents, me thinks some of these Mayors thought we were going to vote them out and 'accidentally' messed up the registration

We went to our Town Hall to check if we were on the list - all of us being Brits.
We were immediately confronted with "its too late you should have registered to vote before etc.etc."
When I asked the "gentleman" to check, he did, said we were not on the list.
When I told him that we had sent the form directly to Málaga he gave us a form to fill in to complain - at the same time he made a phone call. It became apparent then that he had been doing the wrong thing - he was told on the phone that instead of X (in front of the number on your Residency card) he had to put a Zero in front of the number. Once he did this our names appeared.

I used to be indecisive but now I´m not so sure.

We have had someone independently check the register and we're definitely not on. One of the other people affected in our village had intended to stand as a candidate for a party opposing unsustainable development and other environmental issues, we have land grab problems directly affecting our village! She was told it was an administrative error, unfortunately by the time everyone found out (they told us to check 1st week of May) it was to late to put in a reclamacion.
you can check on line

We have our voting cards and lists of names of all the candidates we also know which desk to go to but do we take the list of the party we will vote for and tick the names or do they supply lists at the polling station?
Been trying to find out but the Spanish just tell us where to go and which desk and I've not seen any English with a clue.

See final paragraph. Don't forget to take your ID.

Just been down to vote. Pretty painless except we looked at just my voting card as we went in which indicated 'Mesa A'. After I had voted they couldn't find the OH's name on the list. We checked her card which was for 'Mesa C' so don't assume you both vote at the same table just 'cos you live at the same address.

Just curious how you good folk who have been to vote were able to decide who to vote for?
Not asking how you actually voted but rather how you established what the policies of the respective Parties were? Living out here in the Campo I have not had any election literature even though registered on the Padron!
I have a vague but maybe misguided, understanding that the PSOE are Socialist, the PP well to the far Right but no idea about the rest. Hence I would not have had a clue who to vote for!
Needless to say I haven´t bothered but then I guess I can´t complain about the local Council whatever its colour!

Many of the freebie ex-pat newspapers have had articles about the political parties over the last few weeks. In addition, our local weekly paper put out by the trown hall has had articles about the parties.Just curious how you good folk who have been to vote were able to decide who to vote for?
Admitedly it has also had about 17 photos of the mayor in each edition for the last month.

At least here both parties came out canvassing in every little barrio of the municipio, making sure they knew who was who, which is more than the tosspots have bothered to do in the suburbs of Leeds for many a year! The PP has an English prospective councillor, the mayor made sure my whisky was topped up, and even the Socialist Workers Party gave me a large Sangria, even though I told them that what was needed (here and in the UK) was another Margaret Thatcher!
I used to cough to disguise a [email protected] I f@rt to disguise a cough.

Alan La Cala : The confusion with people trying to park in La Cala ( for whatever reason) cause enough confusion without you adding to it on purpose. Although whatever you do is great by me. My postal address is Benalmadea, but I live on the wrong side of the street and my building is in Fuengirola. I have had my letter box stuffed to the gunnels with election rubbish from Benalmadena and nothing from Fuengirola. Maybe next year or whenever the next election comes they will realise where I live. I have residencia and pay my taxes in Fuengirola so you would hope that the left hand and the right hand were linked. So anything to confuse the politicians you can do should be applauded.
