Not at all like that in our village. Several friends, all candidates (different parties), were sitting on the wall outside the school where we went to vote. Greetings all round. Very welcoming looks from all the officials inside. We chose the party of the people we knew who we thought were best suited.mhic wrote:Voted and had no trouble. Not sure how the locals felt about us turning up though, had some queer old looks.
Elections 27 May
Brian.
At our little polling station there were only 15 foreigners entitled to vote.
I don’t know how many of them did actually vote, but when we turned up, they made us feel very welcome, not just the candidates, smiling and shaking our hands, but the officials, showing us where to go and what to do, they just seemed pleased that some foreigners were taking an interest in local politics.

As katy says, they are all there on the SUR site: http://actualidad.diariosur.es/eleccion ... s-sur.html
Some strange-looking figures though in our patch - last time 823 voted, 41% of the electorate, this time 812, but this is shown as only 25%! Looks like a big increase in the size of the municipio population, but only the same people as last time bothered to vote, all the additional residents stopped at home!

Thanks Peter. Our village managed a pathetic 25% turnout and the PP gained one seat (total available seats 11) leaving the PSOE in power. In 2003 the turnout was 36%; however this year the election came slap bang in the middle of the El Rocio pilgrimage which is a huge 5 day event so the poor turnout not surprising really.
Brian.
I should add that the queer looks (not counting the one from our resident transvestite) came from a couple of old boys who give everyone funny looks. Most people seemed happy enough to see us including a bloke with a huge video camera who followed us in and filmed my wife dropping her ballot paper in the box.

This is the official results site http://www.locales2007.mir.es/muni/FTOP.htm Don't know if it's any different from diarosur's
Our village had a 68.80% turnout, despite quite a few people unable to vote due to 'administrative errors'. The PSOE won with 63% and have a 6:1 majority. Having seen the mess other local towns get into with hung councils I guess that's a good thing

According to the "official result site" there were 30 different parties in Malaga Province fighting the Election although not, apparently in every Municipality! Wow!
Interesting to read how some of you were assisted in deciding who to vote for. Clearly some areas, no doubt the larger conurbations, are geared to dealing with foreigners. One of the disadvantages of living in the campo I guess.

if you go to http://www.elpais.com/comunes/2007/elec ... unicipales
you can see the breakdowns for each individual ayuntamiento. also shown are the results of the last 2 elections (2003 & 1999) for comparison.
Its quite interesting ( with the smaller ones) to see the "increase" in voting population each time, especially when compared to the figures available on the national statistics site ( 2006 and before only available free online), to mostly notice that the massive increase, only happens just before the election year!!!!!.
Certainly where we are, all sorts of relatives etc, most of whom never set foot in the village are suddenly available to vote here!! The ******* in power here, even wanted to send a taxi to Valencia to collect 1 person to vote for him!!!!
Never mind bully boy tactics, and downright lies etc...., as well as denouncing members of the main opposition party for trivialities, and producing non-existant witnesses, or threatening to take others to court, based on total lies. Unfortunately his tactics worked and he even gained one more seat (now 5-2) and no doubt all the projects started in the last month or so, will remain incomplete for quite some time.
