Teba- Sir James Douglas- the Black Douglas
Does anyone know when the celebrations are in Teba for Sir James Douglas? We have family connections with Douglas (hubby was born there) and we have been told that there is a celebration every year in Teba for Sir James. Thought it might be interesting to see. Our local Tourist Office is shut (ill health) so can´ask there.
Thanks
Thanks

Ollie...
I doubt many people know who Sir James Douglas is, without looking him up on Google, perhaps you could give a little background about him ?
Regards,
Gordon

Sir James Douglas took the heart of Robert the Bruce (according to the A.com page) on the crusades. On the way he got caught up with battle against the Moors and was killed there. The heart of Robert the Bruce was rescued and was taken back to Scotland and is buried in Melrose Abbey.
The folk in hubbys village are very proud of their heritage. Thought it would be interesting to see the ´celebrations´ in Teba. I had wondered if any folk posting here lived in or near Teba. I think we will be taking a drive to Teba one day to find the monument and see if we can find out any information.

Olive, there is a paragraph in this link related to the celebrations in Teba. Can't vouch for the accuracy.

While we were back in Scotland we went to the village museum and were reminded about Teba (we had forgotten ) We promised to find out the date and go and watch and take photos.
Many thanks Paula. One problem- we will be away for a wedding in France on the 22nd- so if it is the 25th we might make it back by the skin of our teeth I will have to get the Teba date confirmed.

I imagine the date would be correct being as it is the anniversary of his death. If you go, post some photos, it would be quite interesting to see, (would have to be in the hottest month of the year!!)

Do you think if hubby flashes his passport showing he was born in Douglas he will get invited to the banquet???? As long as he could take me along and he doesn´t have to wear a kilt He does have the legs for one though
Re: Teba- Sir James Douglas- the Black Douglas
If he is not going to wear a kilt he should at the very least wear tartan shorts

This is going to guarantee entrance.
If he wears the kilt,he'll be guest of honour. You've got to do this.
You've got to uphold the faith.

Isn't there a stone\slate Rememberance Plaque in Teba, brought all the way from Melrose to Teba with some form of inscription thereon?????

We went off to Teba and had a look about- we took a photo of the monument to send to Aunty. Aunty had said she thought the Douglas Day was in September. We had looked for the information office in Teba- we were given 3 different places to go!! Never did find it!!
