weird weather
Re: weird weather
Gusty winds all night blowing everything around, hardly slept a wink . No sign of rain though, and now it looks like it's been moved on to early next week acording to AEMET. Saw an article saying that the largest lagoon in Doñana is dry again for the thrid year running, and another saying that the Malaga reservoirs currently have only enough water to last 8 months. We really are in dire straits if we don't get rain this winter.

Re: weird weather
We have had rain on and off for about 10 days softening up the ground for the expected hard rain over the next two days. It’s nice to get some rain this early in the Autumn. It stops the farmers getting anxious.
Re: weird weather
We had something similar - it rained on and off, but now nature looks fresh.
Re: weird weather
so after the forecast of rain these last 3 days, we have had the grand total of 13.9 mm ...

Re: weird weather
Unusually glorious weather up here today. Blue skies and warm. Took a walk down to the beach and many decided to take the opportunity to do a bit of sunbathing before winter sets in.

Re: weird weather
Lots of rain with another four days of the stuff forecast. It’s a positive start to the Autumn but it seems to have gone from Summer, two weeks ago, to almost Winter today. Still, the grass is growing in the campo and the olives are swelling nicely.
Re: weird weather
It varies from valley to valley here. There was a report that the weekend rains brought 15.8L/m2 in Velez Malaga but only 5L/m2 in Nerja just a few miles further east (Antequera much higher inland at 38.4L/m2). We collected about half a wheelbarrow full off the area of roof without guttering overnight on Saturday and had a power cut all Sunday morning! Some rain forecast for the next couple of days but it's already been downgraded a lot for Torrox. We're grateful for anything at the moment.

Re: weird weather
We get power cuts during heavy rain, as well. I wonder why?

Re: weird weather
If you are in the campo your electricity is usually supplied from a transformer near the high voltage pylons rather than from mains cables that you get in the town. Some of these transformers are old and unreliable and rain or strong winds can trip them out.

Re: weird weather
a couple of weeks ago we had a power cut of several hours ...used to be a common occurrence, not so last decade ... so were surprised by longevity of power loss ... then realised there had been a wild fire up around the pass here ... which had damaged the nearby transformer
Re: weird weather
rain at last ... all 36mm of it!

Re: weird weather
Slight pause in the rain today but more due later and tomorrow. 160mm (or 16cm) since Sunday. We’re happy but some dry days would be nice now.

Re: weird weather
Well it lashed it down here today in Periana for two hours!! Hailstones half an inchd across too bouncing off the floor and started our roof leaking into the 3rd floor living room on the back of the house, but they do need it to fill Lake Vinuela as we have had virtually nothing for 9 months now. So the local authorities will be happy at least, even if we are paddling around the terrace and the dog was not impressed either LOL !

Re: weird weather
The weather hasn’t been too bad up here over the last week. I have even been able to spend some time at the beach in stark contrast to the devastating weather being experienced in the Valencia region.
Re: weird weather

Re: weird weather
Surprised a lot more hasn't been said about the recent weather conditions in Spain...At least 95 people have died and not a mention.

Re: weird weather
Maybe that’s because we are all a bit shocked and thankful it’s not us and maybe because it is not us - if you see what I mean.
When I was in Alicante a few weeks ago, there was a cloud burst and within minutes the streets were ankle deep in fast flowing water. I asked my friend why there were no drains. He said the Ayuntamiento didn’t want problems with rats and blocked drains snd sea water coming up the drains when the tide is high. The rain water in the street eventually flows into the sea. It struck me as weird in so many ways but what do I know? Nada!
