Real Club Sevilla Golf to host the 25th edition of the Challenge of Spain

Earlier this week the Royal Spanish Golf Federation announced the Real Club Sevilla Golf as its choice of location for the upcoming 25th edition of the Challenge of Spain, the tournament which constitutes the Spanish stage of the European Challenge Tour.

Designed by José M Olazábal, a two-time Masters winner, the course has wide fairways but also undulating greens that will put the Challenge Tour players’ short game to the test. The course has previously hosted the Spanish Open, the Seville Open and the WGC World Golf Cup on three occasions making it a suitable for the Challenge of Spain.

The Managing Director, Enrique Martin, says ‘we are very proud of the maintenance of the course, which is ready at any time to receive the Challenge Tour and much more. And it is not just for the tournament, we maintain this level of preparation throughout the year, it is one of our qualities, that members can play every day on a course prepared for high-level competition'.

In recent times, the course’s facilities have received several renovations with much attention being given to improving its sustainability. Alongside adapting the irrigation system to use recycled water, other investments include the installation of solar panels as well as the use of robots to help maintain the club’s gardens and parts of the course itself.

Throughout the tournament, the 28-person maintenance team with the assistance of trainees will work to keep the course in the condition required for a standard of competition such as the Challenge of Spain, something which the DP World Tour were pleased to confirm upon visiting earlier this year.

The XXV edition of the Challenge de España held in Seville from 9th to 12th May promises to be a great feature on this year’s European Challenge Tour.
