Historian
Hugh Thomas is a British historian who specialises in Hispanic
culture and holds the title of Lord Thomas of Swynnerton. He is
a prolific author and one of his best-known books is "The Spanish
Civil War" is a classic work. Thomas is particularly enamoured
of Seville and Semana Santa (Holy Week).
Hugh Thomas is an academic of the Spanish Royal Academy of History
and recently held a conference titled "Diego Velázquez and the
conquest of Cuba" where he concluded that that Diego Velázquez,
the Governor of Cuba during the first decades of the XVI century,
"held the same brutal stance as that of the rest of the conquerors
of the New World."
