Jose Maria - El Tempranillo

Postby kr236rk » Thu Jun 22, 2023 3:47 am

Hola!

Jose Maria was a famous outlaw from the romantic past of Andalusia.

Does anyone have any information about him please?

Thank you! :)

I think this is one of those occasions where the internet is your best friend:

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Tempranillo

Although when we moved here over twenty years ago there were plenty, usually in the legal, conveyancing and building trade, who fitted the description of "bandit" rather well. :lol: :lol:

Many thanks!

I have a book on Andalusia by John Gill, it is really excellent - I must try to contact him.

I'm also reminded that there used to be and maybe still is, a museum dedicated to Los Bandoleros (of whom there were many by all accounts) in Ronda. Maybe someone who lives in that area can confirm it's still open, but the internet seems to say "yes".
One "bandolero" who comes to mind and whose name carries on, is Pasos Largos: now the name of a bodega making some very expensive and quite excellent red wines.

Thank you!

Pasos Largos - long pacer - on account of his long legs :)

@KR
John was a contributor to Andalucia.com in the 2000s when he lived in Ronda. He moved to near Thessaloniki in Greece. If you make contact please let us know.

@Trooperman
The Bandit museum in Ronda closed due to the Covid Pandemic in March 2020.

The entire colection was sold in October 2020 to the Andalucia Bandit Museum in El Borge, La Axarquia Malaga.
