Sierra de Aracena y los Picos de Aroche Natural Park - Things to see

Things to see
The magnificent caves, Gruta de las Maravillas in Aracena, are the most popular tourist attraction in the province of Huelva.

As a former contested border area and scene of disputes between Castile and the almohads and, later, Portugal, the Sierra has many castles. The most notable ones are in Aracena, Cortegana, Aroche, Almonster and Cumbres Mayores. Other fortifications (some ruined) are in the northern edge of the park, at Encinasola, Cumbres de San Bartolomé, Cala and Santa Olalla. Between Encinasola and the turn-off to this village on the N435 near La Nava, on the banks of the Múrtigas river, are the ruins of Torres castle.

The Peña de Arias Montano, with a hermitage on a clifftop and great views, is near Alájar.

The Chorro de Santa Ana is a waterfall just outside the village of Santa Ana.

The embalses (reservoirs) just outside Aracena and Zufre are both good places for a dip and a picnic on a hot summer's day.
