The second prize in the 'II International Mural Competition of Estepona - 2020' went to the Brazilian creator Andre Farkas ‘Treco’ for his work ‘The Blue Phase of the Curious Bird’.
In its bid to become a serious cultural destination, Torremolinos introduced a new Ruta del Murales in 2022, a route intended to recover its history and heritage through a series of spectacular murals.
Along with this impressive collection of sculptures, Torremolinos also features numerous other works, including the Monument to Andalucía, a piece known to most as “the flamenco sculpture”.
Artist Elena Laverón holds a special affection for Torremolinos and several of her sculptures have been installed in the main boulevard, while another collection can be found in the peaceful gardens.

Estepona’s Route of Artistic Murals is an iniciative of the local council and the mayor, Jose Maria Garcia Urbano that was started in September 2012. It now consists of about 70 murals in the town centre and near centre districts.
Estepona has a policy of commissioning sculptures by contemporary artists in different location in the town centre for the enjoyment of tourist and residents alike.
Many of Andalucia's towns and villages are the homes to genuine artistic treasures which the traveller often passes by unsuspectingly. These include paintings, sculptures, jewels, carvings and archaeological remains, all of which bear witness to the region's extraordinary artistic heritage, to be found in its cathedrals, museums, churches, town halls, monasteries and convents.
The mural 'Atlantas', which pays tribute to the female artists behind some of the town's other famous paintings as well as women in general, is located on the El Pinar building just off Avenida Andalucia, across from the Mercadona supermarket on this street.
'El vínculo que nos une' ('The bond that unites us') is by artist Ignacio Basave Cavanna from Madrid. The work depicts a touching and sympathetic scene between a grandmother and her granddaughter. A muralist, draughtsman, illustrator and painter, Basave has had a long professional career, with individual works and participation in collective projects.
