Music and Dance Festivals in Andalucia

There are hundreds of music and dance festivals taking place in Andalucia every year, especially in the summer.

The festivals cover every genre from rock, pop, indie, folk, blues and jazz to classical and flamenco. Some of these, mostly those offering jazz, classical or flamenco, are well-established and have been taking place for many years, while others - generally pop and dance music - are relatively new.

On this page we give an overview of the more important and established festivals which are likely to be held every year around the same dates. In addition to the list below, there many one-off concerts and festivals take place and are promoted at a local level; too many to list.

Andres Segovia Guitar Festival, La Herradura    
‘Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Clasica Andrés Segovia' is a prestigious classical guitar festival and competition, which has taken place annually in the seaside Granada town since 1985. The 2019 dates were 22th to 26th January   More>


Primavera Trompetera Festival - 11th to 13th April 2019
First edition was 2015 in La Galeria discotheque. 2019 is the the V Anniversary the 11th, 12th and 13th of April in Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto. For this edition they will have artists like Alborosie, Apollo 440, SFDK, El canijo de Jerez, Toteking, Nach, DJ Nano, Kidd Keo, Che Sudaka, Costa and more. This festival has 4 stages, camping zone, VIP zone, food trucks, resting zone, attractions and craft products shops.


Festival Interestelar Sevilla - 24th and 25th May 2019
A music festival celebrating its fourth edition in 2019. First was in October 2016 at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo on the Isla Cartuja. Billed as more than just a music festival with art, gastronomy and much more. First edition artists were: Love of Lesbian, 091, Ivan Ferreiro, Fuel Fandango, Maga, Guadalupe Plata,  Carmen Boza, The Prussians, Mucho Modelo de Respuesta Polar, Pony Bravo, Miss Caffeina and El imperio del Perro. Unfortunately unusaully heavy rain overshadowed the first edition and the Saturday (second of two) night's performances had to be cancelled. The second edition in 2017 was much more successful! The 2018 dates were 17,18,19 May.

Interestelar has 'de facto' taken over from Territorios which was an international music festival held every year since 1998 in the grounds of the Monasterio de la Cartuja third weekend in May. It attracted big international names, such as Fatboy Slim, Tricky and Basement Jaxx. Territorios was attended by 32,000 in 2015. Sadly the 2016 edition was cancelled shortly before the event, with the organisers citing economic reasons and lack of institutional support.

In 2019 it will take place again in the Monasterio de la Cartuja, the 24th and 25th of May. Artists such as Vetusta Morla, Fangoria, Iván Ferreiro, Rozalén, La Moda, Tote King, Morgan, Nixon, Sweet Barrio, Kuve, Carmen Boza, De Pedro will play at this Indie music festival. There will be 3 different stages.


Granada International Festival of Music and Dance - 21st June to 12th July 2019.
‘Festival International de Musica y Danza de Granada' features a month of classical guitar recitals, orchestral concerts, ballet and flamenco at several stunning and historic venues including the permanent stage in the Generalife Gardens and the patio of the Palacio Carlo V in the Alhambra. This festival, which celebrated its 65th edition in 2015, takes place in the second half of June and first half of July and includes 130 performances. FEX is the extension of the festival (like the Fringe in Edinburgh), with another 85 events in various venues and streets of the city.

Ojeando, Ojen
The small village of Ojen, near Marbella, has been celebrating its modern indie music festival on the first weekend in July for 10 years now. Past editions have seen bands such as Supersubmarina, Guadalupe Plata, Nacho Vegas, Russian Red, Airbag, Full, Glaciar, Delorentos . There is also a Ojeando New Talents contest to win a chance to perform at the Ojeando Festival. Takes place end of June, first or second weekend in July, 2018 edition was held on 13 - 14 July at three venues in the village, with other activities also taking place. 2019 line up Cala Vento, Cariño, Los Punsetes and more. 2019 dates are 28th and 29th June. . Two-day ticket price 27,50 €.


Festival Cabo de Plata, Barbate 
First edition was 2016 with thousands attending this festival in the fishing town of Barbate on the Cadiz coast. More than 60 artists with a mix of reggae, flamenco fusion, rock, and hip hop - Triana and Chambao were two of the acts. Camping area provided. Look out for this one, a smaller version was also held on 4 October 2016. 2019 dates are 25th, 26th and 27th July.

Pulpop Festival, Roquetas de Mar, Almeria 
Pop and Rock Music festival in bullring in Roquetas de Mar (near Almeria city) on Fri and Sat evening in early July. First edition was in 2004. Free entrance and bus laid on from Almeria city and El Ejido.   Focus on young bands and included a contest of the bands. 2017 line-up included: Friday; Galaxina, Corizonas, Wi Bouz (Almería), J. J. Sprondel (Málaga) Gentleman Clef (Madrid).   Saturday; León Benavente, The Spitfires  (Watford, UK), Novedades Carminha, Sonograma, Airbag, Copa Turbo. 2018 was headlined by the Primatives (UK) dates were 6th 7th July. 2019 dates are 5th and 6th July. Bands such as Cala Vento, Trepat, Roosevelt and Nixon will play at the festival. Venue is Roquetas Bullring. Entrance Free. 

Weekend Beach Festival, Torre del Mar - 3rd to 6th July 2019

This three-day music and dance festival, held on the Playa Poniente at Torre del Mar (Malaga) in July, sees average 38,000 people per night (140.000 total) dance until dawn to bands and DJs on three stages. The festival, which started in 2014, offers a camping area and has attracted many noise complaints from local residents. 2018 dates were 5th to 8th of July, when The Offspring (USA), Inner Circle (Jamaica), DJ David Guetta, Asian Dub Foundation all perfromed.  

Cordoba Guitar Festival
The ‘Festival de Guitarra de Cordoba' takes place each July at locations around the city of Cordoba, including Gran Teatro, open-air Teatro de La Axerquia, Teatro Gongora, and the Plaza de Toros. Founded in 1981, the festival lasts for two weeks at the begining of July, and has hosted many of the world's most celebrated guitarists - Bob Dylan, Pat Metheney, Robert Cray, Paco Peña, as well as famous artists such as Sting. 2019 dates are 4th to 13th July. Imagina Funk, Torres - 25th, 26th and 27th July 2019
The best funk festival in Spain takes place each year over two or three days in mid or late July in the Sierra Magina town of Torres (Jaen). Two top bands perform each evening and the DJs play until dawn. It started in 2008 and has a camping area.

Starlite Festival, Marbella - 11th July to 24th August 2019

The Starlite Festival is a major music and cultural event held from mid-July to mid-August at the Cantera de Nagüeles (Nagüales Quarry) in Marbella, was established in 2012. The stage is surrounded by 60m-high rock walls, which creates an interesting, atmosphere, like a hidden venue beneath the stars. Many popular Spanish singers and some big international bands such as the Buena Vista Social Club, Tom Jones, Lenyy Kravitz, Enrique Iglesias and the Pet Shop Boys, Beach Boys, Santana. A disco opens after each concert, and there's a glittering Starlite Gal hosted by Antonio Banderas in August. More>

BluesCazorla - 11th, 12th and 13th July 2019
One of the longest-running festivals in Andalucia, this blues and rock event in the Jaen mountain town started in 1994. Many famous names, including Mick Taylor, Otis Grand and Dr Feelgood, have honoured the festival over the years. Takes place at three different venues: the Cruzcampo stage in the bullring, the Jaen en Julio stage in the Cristo Auditorium, and the Agua Sierra de Cazorla stage in Plaza de Santa Maria. Other activities and exhibitions are held in the Merced Theatre.  2018 Edition closed with Billy Gibons cofounder of ZZ Top.

Etnosur, Alcala la Real   - 19th, 20th and 21th July 2019
Showcase for ethnic and alternative music in this Jaen town. This free festival, supported by the local Town Hall and Jaen provincial government, has been held annually since 1997. Originally known as "Ethnic Festival Encuentros del Sur", now simply Etnosur. As well as the concerts, you can see craft exhibitions, workshops, exhibitions, films, lectures, documentaries and competitions - the festival takes over the town. There were 40,000 visitors at its peak in 2006.

Alamos Beach Festival, Estepona - 31st July to 3rd August 2019

Electronic music and dance festival. First edition in 2015 when 20.000 attended. Up to 2017 Los Alamos beach festival was held mid July at Los Alamos beach, Torremolinos (Malaga). In 2018 it moved to Estepona Recinto Ferial primarily to avoid noise complaints. It aslo added an extra day to become Wed to Sat/Sun. According to the organisors, more than 70.000 attended the festival in 2018 between the 1st and 5th August. Armin Van Buuren was early artist to be confirmed. Marco Carola headlined Sat night. Five stages featuring DJs. Previous headlines included Martin Garrix, Jamie Jones, Axwell & Ingrosso, Davide Squillace, Kryder, Borgore, Joseph Capriati, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Andrea Oliva, Sander van Door. Camping area provided.  Day Tickets 39€. Estepona

The Juergas Rock Fest, Adra - 31th July to 3th August 2019
Grass-roots rock music festival in Adra (Almeria), which started in 2014, with about 25 bands over the three days (Thursday to Saturday) - 2015 had Asian Dub Foundation and Kiko Veneno. You can vote for the best band of the festival. The concerts take place next to the beach, with a main stage and an acoustic stage, and there's a camping area nearby. The festival takes place on the last weekend in July or first weekend in August. Under-18s are admitted with signed parental authorisation. Tickets from the organisers (ticketscript).

Alhama Festival de Música, Alhama de Granada - 2nd and 3rd August 2019
The Alhama Music Festival celebrated its 50st edition in 2015. Founded in 1966 as a local singing competition in Alhama de Granada, it was orginally part of the traditional feria, and was called ‘Festival Regional de la Canción de Alhama de Granada'. Over the following years the festival grew in importance grew and attracted singers from all over Andalucia. In the late 1970s it had a more radical feel, with the campaign for democracy and Andalucia being declared an autonomous community. In the 1980s protest gave way to commercialization, although the festival's title until 2011 was ‘Festival de Musica Joven de Andalucia' (Andalucia Young Music Festival). This was perhaps Andalucia's first contemporary music festival. Renowned national artists headline these days, such as Kiko Veneno. There are two distinct categories: ‘Rock and Pop' and ‘Flamenco Fusion'. The festival is strongly supported by local administration and the competition is still at its heart. 
The festival takes place on two stages in Patio del Carmen and Paseo del Cisne on the first Friday and Saturday in August. Tickets are free. In 2017 the first night  competition bands were Derty Dayana, The One and the Other, The Mama Llama, Lucius Blue, Gsus López y Rafa Ortega and on the second night the invitees were Celtas Cortos, Sonido Vegetal, Enseco (winners of 2015), closing with Balkan Fuzion Party: Dj Matt Bombinoff and circus Balkanico. Takes place last wekend in July or first weekend in August

The Cadiz city festival organised by a grass root group of young music enthusiasts for new and imerging bands in 2013. The competition is open to bands playing rock, funk, pop, blues, soul. It usually takes place in the first weekend of August over two days. In 2016 it was 5th and 6th August invited artists included Tomasito, Made Rockonplanet, Smokers die Young and Sesion con Chagar. The competition finalists were Becky and the Holograms, Beggar's House, Chucrut. The first editions were held in El Pelicano Music Café but now with support from town hall and local radio stations it takes place in the magnificent Baluarte de la Candelaria the old fort that is part of the sea walls overlooking the bay.  Entrance is free. 

No Sin Musica, Cadiz - 15th to 17th August 2019 
No Sin Musica Festival, often referred to as NSM, is a three-day event featuring mainstream and indie pop such names such as Lori Meyers, Rosendo Mclan, Ivan Ferriero, Sidonie, Miss Caffeina. Prefious editioin have welcomed Izal, Love of Lesbian, Amaral and Fuel Fandango to the stage. Festival now takes place third weekend in July in the Puerto de Cadiz, with bands playing every evening on two stages. The first two editions (2013 and 2014) took place in El Puerto de Santa Maria, however since 2015 the Muelle de Cadiz (Port of Cadiz) has been the venue. The festival campsites are at Camping Dunas de San Anton in El Puerto de Santa Maria, with a special catamaran ferry service to take festival goers to the site from the camping areas, with buses laid on for the return journey at night. Tickets 32€ without camping, 60€ with camping and transfers. 2017 dates were 20th to 22nd of July.

Antequera Blues Festival
The Antequera Blues Festival is one of the longest-running events in Andalucia. Started in 1988 when 'Caledonia Blues Band' played in the bullring. It is more of a series of concerts with four renown bands playing on two nights. The free concerts takes place in the Plaza de los Escribanos in front of the renascence church of Santa María la Mayor. In 2018 Merche Corisco and Kid Carlos Band play Friday night. Austin Slack (19yrs UK) and A. Bello Band (Venezuela) play Saturday night. Dates for 2018 (28th edition) are 28 - 29 July. Starts at 22.30  Free entrance.

Dreambeach, Villaricos - 7th to 11th August 2019

Dreambeach is a two-day dance festival featuring top electronic music. In 2016 the headliners were: 50 Cent and Carl Cox. This festival takes place on the first weekend (Friday and Saturday) in August on Playa Villaricos (Cuevas del Almanzora, Almería) and around 60,000 attend. There are additional events on the Sunday. The camping zone for 30.000 is situated in a pine wood next to the Playa de Palomares. Strictly over 18s for this festival, which is the natural successor to Creamfield Andalucia, held here from 2004-2007 and then in other locations until 2012. 2017 was the 5th edition and ran for 5 days from 10th to 15th August 2017.  More>



Tarifeando, Tarifa  
This festival in Tarifa (Cadiz) had its first edition in 2015 as Tarifeando Sound Festival, when it was headlined by Chambao supported by Juanito Makande, and proved extremely popular. Tarifeando takes place in the Tarifa football ground in mid-August. In 2016 (20th and 21st August) Juanito Makande headlined and was supported by Muchachito, Mario Diaz, Tomasito, Captain Combarde, Diego Carasco, La Trueke and Malamanera. Was 19 August 2017. No info regarding 2018 published, unlikely to happen. 

Chanclas, Montilla  
This festival in the wine-making Cordoba town started in 2014 as a one-day event with about 3,500 attending and pop, rock, indie, electronic and flamenco acts. In 2016 (19 - 20 August 2016) the festival, now two days, moved to the larger 10,000-capacity Montilla football stadium, with Amaral headlining, supported by Izal, Supersubmarina, La Gran Pegatina and Juanito Makandi. Bentomiz's Mountain Wine & Music - Sayalonga, La Axarqia
Not so much a festival but a series of musical evening during the summer. This is the second summer of musical events and the first under the name Mountain Wine & Music. In 2017 there were six events. Thomas Kaurich played a piano recital on a Steinway.    Open air performances in the stunning location of the winery, with gourmet tapas and wine available. Tickets. 35€ price includes one wine and tapa.


AnfiRock Sound Fest, Isla Cristina
Music festival in the seaside town on the Huelva coast, with national and international bands. First edition was in 2013; dates for 2017 were Fri 23rd to Sunday 25th June. In 2019 it will take place on 14th and 15th of September. Artist such as Depedro, Aurora, FAVX, VULK, Sisteray will play at the festival. Tickets 25 € for both days and camping, 18 € for one day. Camping at Camping Giralda, and special deals at Barcelo Hotel. Organised by Asociación Cultural Costaluzfest and the Area de Juventud del Ayuntamiento de Isla Cristina. La Bienal de Flamenco, Sevilla  - 4th September to 4th October 2020
The Bienal de Flamenco takes place in Seville every other year, in even-numbered years (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018). The most important flamenco festival in the world, now in its 19th edition, features all the top artists and dance companies from Spain and around the world, and lasts three weeks from September to early October. Malaga holds its Flamenco Bienal on odd-numbered years, from February to September; Jerez has a major annual flamenco festival in February/March.

Gibraltar Music Festival  - 21 & 22 September 2018
This two-day festival, known as GMF MTV Gibraltar Calling music festival, is headlined by well-known bands from the UK and USA. GMF takes place over two days (Friday and Saturday) in early September at the Victoria Stadium, with bands playing on three stages, from the afternoon until the early hours; the first edition was in 2014 with Duran Duran, Paloma Faith, Kings of Leon and Madness. Artists in 2016 were Stereophonics, Travis, Brian Ferry, All Saints, Stereophonics, Jess Glynne, KT Tunstall and NE-YO. Artists in 2018 are Stormzy, Rag 'n' Bone Man, Two Door Cinema Club, Sister Sledge, Suzi Quatro, Boomtown Rats, Children under 12 are allowed in free.

Southpop, Isla Cristina 
Spanish indie music festival on the Huelva coast. First edition was in 2008; it was called "Santa Teresa South Pop Festival Isla Cristina" until 2014. Venue is Auditorio del Parque, Calle del Arquitecto Aramburu Maqua s/n. A smaller Sevilla Southpop takes place in early May. Special rates at Barcelo Hotel or free camping at Camping Giralda. 30€ one day ticket, 45€ both days. Children are very welcome; tickets for accompanied under 15s cost 5€, under 3s are free and there's a free guarderia service. Unaccompanied 16 and 17-year-olds are admitted with signed parental authorisation. Free bus service from Seville.

Chanquete World Music Festival,  Nerja  - 14th September 2019
First edition celebrated at Playa de El Playazo, Nerja on 17 September 2016 with an estimated 16.000 attending. Artists were Macaco, Chambao, La Mala Rodríguez, El Canijo de Jerez, Tote King & Shotta, Miguel Campello, Morodo, Shabu y Proyecto Mandarina. For 2019 artists will be Macaco, Natos y Waor, Miguel Campello, Triple XXX, Locoplaya, Les Castizos and more. Tickets 25€.

Granada Sound - 20th and 21st September 2019
 Major music festival in Granada city, in late September, with pop, rock and flamenco fusion, featuring  established national names. Founded in 2012 as a one-day festival called ‘Alhambra Sound'. it became a two-day festival in 2015 and was renamed Granada Sound. For 2019 artists such as Vetusta Morla, Iván Ferreiro, Second, Zahara, Depedro, Morgan, Carolina Durante, Shinova and more will play. 2016  when line-up was: The Ting TingsLove of LesbianNeumanAmaralFuel FandangoSecondMiss CaffeinaLeon BenaventeLa M.O.D.A. (La Maravillosa Orquesta del Alcohol), Carlos Sadness, Full Manuel, Angél Stanich, Sr Chinarro, Arizona Baby, Carmen Boza, Mucho Modelo de Respuesta Polar, Los News, EME DJ and Buffet libre. The Granada Sound festival venue is Paseo del Cortijo del Conde  (a large vacant plot on an industrial estate to north-west of the city centre, off the N-432) Coaches are laid on from other cities including Madrid, Valencia, Cadiz, Murcia, Sevilla. 


Monkey Week, Seville 


Look out for the big bands of the future at this festival which takes place in the Alameda de Hurcules, Sevilla. Previous editions have been held in the Cadiz port town of El Puerto de Santa Maria - around 100 electronic pop, indie pop and indie rock groups play on the second weekend in October (Dia de Hispanidad long weekend) on Friday to Sunday. Monkey Market is a trade fair with stands for music industry professionals. The 2016 dates were 13 - 15 October 2016




Granapop, Granada 
Independent rock and pop bands from Granada and Spain play in this one-day grass-roots music festival in November; the first year was 2012. Always donates funds to charitable causes. Venue is Sala El Tren.The 2016 dates were 19 November 2016.

Festival de Music Española de Cadiz
Traditional music festival held each year in Cadiz.  The festival founded in 2002 lasts for three weeks and now holds about fifty concerts in different venues around the city including Gran Teatro Falla and some in neighbouring towns such as Bodegas Osborne in EL Puerto de Santa Maria.  Featured artist are accomplished classical or traditional Spanish musicians and singers. The festival is organized by the Junta de Andalucia Culture department and is supported by several bank's foundations. In 2017 the dates are 11th to 27th  November.   Individual concert ticket prices range from 5€ to 25€, and a 70€ festival pass can also be purchased. The 2016 dates were 11th to 27th  November 2017.



Verdiales Music Festival, Puerto de la Torre   28th December 2017
Festival held each year on 28 December for this unusual style of folk music particular to Malaga province, with interesting flower-adorned costumes. Bands, called pandas, from 20 towns in the region, compete on stage. Open event - no tickets or reservations needed. More>

AlRumbo Festival, Chipiona
Three nights of dance and pop music at this festival in the seaside town of Chipiona (Cadiz) in mid-July. With its own camping area, the festival was founded in 2010 and had featured international acts such as Lauryn Hill, Cypress Hill, Manu Chao and Chambao; in 2015 The Prodigy headlined.  For 2013 to 2017 the venue moved to the larger on Avenida de la Musica in Urb. Costa Balena with one stage with up to 60 acts performing, and an 50.000 revellers in 2016. Was the third biggest music festival in Spain. Tickets from 29€ for an intelligent wristband with chip. Camping area called Zona de Descanso. Confirmed acts for 2017 were Mala Rodriguez, La Raiz, Natos y Waor, Chambao, La Pegatina, Fyahbwoy & Forward ever band, Narco, Green Valley, Foyone, Ayax y Prok. Dates for 2017 were 12 - 15 July.  The 2017 festival returned to Chiclana as an election pledge by the Mayor, José Maria Roman, this time  was in the hot inland million m2 site of La Lomo del Puerco nearer Conil.  Sadly the event was cancelled one week before with 20.000 tickets sold. The organisors blame the mayor and the Chiclana Town Hall for beauracracy, more info in turn the Town Hall held a press conference to blame to organisors for internal and provider problems. lack of capital, not providing legal documents and owing money on previous editions. More info.  Drone footage posted on social media showed that no stage or infrastructure had been constructed one week before the event.  2017 dates were cancelled.
