Music and Dance Festivals in Andalucia

Welcome to the Andaluca.com Music and Dance Festivals page. Here we track over 50 important music and dance festivals in Andalucia. We update this page every week as new dates and artists are announced. Although some have been running for over thirty years we include the festivals on this page of contemporary or modern music and dance festivals in order to differentiate them from the thousands of Traditional festivals or Flamenco festivals that take place in all the cities, towns and villages in Andalucia each year.

There are hundreds of music and dance festivals held in Andalucía each year, most are held in the summer. 2025 is set to be another big year, with organisers releasing festival dates noticeably earlier.

The festivals cover every genre from rock, pop, indie, folk, blues and jazz to classical and flamenco. Some of these, mostly those offering jazz, classical or flamenco, are well-established and have been taking place for decades, while others - generally pop and dance music - are relatively new.

We track about fifty festivals below. These are the more important and established festivals or concert series which are held annualy in Andalucia. In addition to the list below, are hundreds of one-off concerts taking place and promoted in all cities and towns and villages; far too many to list. We update this page with festival dates and artist announcements on a weekly basis.

On other pages we also list the most well-known Traditional festivals including Carnivals, Holy Week / Semana Sanata, and the traditional summer ferias. We also list the more important Flamenco Festivals.

Alhama Festival de Música, Alhama de Granada
The Alhama Music Festival celebrates its 58th edition in 2024. Founded in 1966 as a local singing competition in Alhama de Granada, it was originally part of the traditional feria, and was called ‘Festival Regional de la Canción de Alhama de Granada'. Over the following years the festival grew in importance and attracted singers from all over Andalucia. In the late 1970s it had a more radical feel, with the campaign for democracy and Andalucia being declared an autonomous community. In the 1980s protest gave way to commercialization, although the festival's title until 2011 was ‘Festival de Musica Joven de Andalucia' (Andalucia Young Music Festival). This was perhaps Andalucia's first contemporary music festival. Renowned national artists headline these days, such as Kiko Veneno. There are two distinct categories: ‘Rock and Pop' and ‘Flamenco Fusion'. The festival is strongly supported by local administration and the competition is still at its heart.

For 2024 the mythical rock band from Granada "La Guardia", formed in the early 80's, led by Manuel España, and considered one of the most important rock bands in Spain, performed on the Friday of the festival. The festival usually takes place on two stages in Patio del Carmen and Paseo del Cisne on the first Friday and Saturday in August. Advanced tickets 10€ (one day) 15€ (two days), from the ticket office on the day 15€ (one day) and 20€ (two days).

Previous editions took place on the 2nd 3rd August 2024, 4th and 5th August 2023, 5th and 6th August 2022. What's is a festival?

A traditional definition of a festival is "a special day or days, usually to commemorate an event, with its social activities, associated cuisine and particular ceremonies". A more contemporary definition of a festival is "an organised set of special events, such as musical performances from similar genres". If the concerts or events are spread over non-consecutive dates without any complimentary or unifying activities, it more correct to name them a "series of concerts" than a festival. In the listing above we retain their official names often with the word festival in the title even when this is probably a misnomer.

Attendance statistics.

Festival (and other sporting tournaments) attendance numbers are generally mis-stated by organisors and blindly mis-reported by the media. It is of interest to a festival attendee to know correctly the size of the audience they are likey to be part of, whether this is for security, logistical or practical reasons. When a festival reports "con un total de 75.000 asistentes durante los tres dias" and the press reports "Around 75,000 Weekenders descended on the town between Thursday and Saturday to enjoy the Festival'. This correctly means that there were 75.000 gate passes over the three days and the size of the audience would be an average of 25.000 persons per night. Organisers do not deduct the gate passes of the artists, crew, working staff, press, catering etc. Exact attendance statistics are rarely published.

No longer :(

On our No Longer :( archive page we have info about festivals that no longer take place. This is intended to be useful to refer to if you have heard or read a about a festival and are searching for info.
