Puro Latino Festival
By Diana Sierra
The Puro Latino Festival emerged in Spain in the summer of 2018, celebrating its first edition on 14 August in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz). Since its inception, the event has positioned itself as one of the main musical events dedicated to reggaeton, trap, and Latin urban rhythms.
In the following years, its organisers followed a strategy of regional expansion, selecting Andalusia - first Seville and Torremolinos, and later Almeria - as the natural centre of the festival, due to the tourist infrastructure and favourable coastal locations. Cordoba was briefly considered, but eventually discarded after 2020, leaving four main venues: Cadiz, Malaga (Torremolinos), Seville, and Madrid.
The Puro Latino Festival is consolidating its position as one of the most outstanding urban music events of the summer in Spain. Its inaugural line-up featured renowned artists such as Daddy Yankee, Bad Gyal, Juan Magán, Nicky Jam, among others, attracting more than 70,000 attendees.
Each venue, such as La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, or the fairgrounds in Almeria, Torremolinos, and El Puerto de Santa Maria, is set up with bar areas, food trucks, rest areas, recharging points, and merchandising, creating a comfortable and vibrant festival environment.
Most of the songs performed by the artists are part of hit songs. Currently, urban rhythms and especially reggaeton have become social phenomena that move the masses.
With such a large number of attendees, the festival has become an important part of Andalusian summers. With a total of 75,000 attendees over the three days of the festival, it is important to clarify that this figure represents the total number of tickets sold on all days. Therefore, the average audience per night was approximately 25,000 people. This distinction helps to understand better the real size of the daily crowd and the dynamics of the event.
Advantages
The Puro Latino Festival offers an atmosphere full of vibrant energy and crowds passionate about urban music. It stages stand out for their visual and technical set-up, designed to offer an immersive experience. On the main stage, there are giant high-definition LED screens and synchronised lighting systems that accompany each show with special effects, pyrotechnics, and dynamic visuals.
Disadvantages
Despite its many strengths, the festival faces some challenges. Some attendees have reported delays in the programme, with some performances starting later than planned, which can affect the overall running of the event.
