Seville Airport dates from 1914 when a permanent aerodrome was established on land used for an air show and for the first flight between Europe and Africa. The present terminal was opened in 1989. The architect Rafael Moneo designed the with three traditional components of Seville culture in mind: the mosque (vaulted arch concourse) , the palace (expansive blue tiled concourse) and the orange trees (in the airport grounds). In 1992, the year of Expo, nearly 3 million passenger movements were recorded. By 2004, 2.7 million passenger movements were being recorded and increasing to peak of 5m in 2011. It is currently about 4m passenger movements a year. On the south side of the runway Airbus have an assembly plant, mainly for the C175 and A400 military transporter planes.

Seville airport is located about 10 Kilometres north east of the city, on the A4 (was NIV) motorway to Cordoba and Madrid at km 533.

There is a at least a half hourly bus service (bus Especial Aeropuerto - EA) from 05.20 to 00.45 hrs to the Santa Justa railway station and the centre of the city. The cost of a single ticket is 4,00 Euro. The route terminates at Plaza de Armas, and there are stops in streets Palos de la Frontera, Pedro de Castro, Enramadilla, Avenida San Francisco Javier, Luis de Morales y Avenida Kansas City (next to Santa Justa station). There are plenty of taxis outside the terminal building. The taxi fare to the city centre to or from the airport is about 25 Euro.
Car Parking for 2000 cars is found 4 mins walk away opposite the terminal. Short stay (P1) is about 1,00 euro every half and hour and max 16€ per day. P2 is the long term car park at 14€ per day for the first two days and then 7€ per day therafter. Reductions if booked on line at AENA.es There are also a number of off site parking companies with shuttle bus to and from airport terminal.
Seville Airport has a single runway, the 09-27 (3,360 by 45 metres) and a parallel taxiway. The hourly capacity is 28 movements. The apron has a capacity for 23 aircraft.
