Hotel Boutique Convento
17th-century convent with modern interior near old town.
This new one-star hotel is in a stunning historic setting: a converted Dominican convent dating from 1635. In addition to the magnificent original arcaded patio, complete with chequered floor and stone-and-iron wells, it still has cloisters, a church (Santo Domingo) and chapel. Monks still inhabit the building today.
The 23 rooms are stylish and minimalist, in earthy tones, with bold colour accents such as orange armchairs and fire-engine-red walls. Appropriately enough, they are named after saints. Bathrooms are modern, with glass sinks. Free WIFI is available throughout the hotel.
Although hidden down tiny streets, the hotel conveniently located right next door to the Palacio de Congresos (Conference Centre) and opposite the train and bus stations and ferry port; the cathedral is just five minutes away. Parking available at the train station.
