Villaviciosa de Córdoba developed around the hermitage of the Virgen de Villaviciosa in the 16th century. The village is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, making it perfect for hiking, cycling, or horseback riding.

Key attractions include the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Villaviciosa, the hermitage of San Isidro, and the parish church of San José, which was built in the 19th century in a Neoclassical style. 

Visitors can explore the ruins of the castle of Cabeza de Vaca and the castle of Nevado. Other interesting sites are the Fuente de la Verbena fountain and a historic bridge from the moorish period that spans the river Guadiato.

Villaviciosa de Córdoba is known for its unique handicrafts, particularly items made from deer antlers collected during the annual culling. other handicraftsare bulrush, leather, wrought iron, and taxidermy.

Food lovers can enjoy local dishes such as venison stew, rabbit stew, pig's head stew,`emborrizado´ a type of stew, migas, and gazpacho. For dessert, try perrunas sweet pastries, piñonates, or hojuelas.

The town celebrates various festivals, including the ‘fiesta de los tomillos’ (thyme festival) on 19 January, where thyme is burnt and people dance around bonfires. 

On 15 May, there’s a pilgrimage for San Isidro, and throughout May and June, the Plazas de Mayo (May Squares) take place every Saturday, featuring floral decorations and musical performances. 

On the morning of 24 June, children celebrate Los Cencerros (the cowbells), ringing bells and visiting homes for sweets and coins. In August, the fair in honour of the Virgen de la Asunción occurs, followed by a smaller fair for the Virgen de Villaviciosa in September.

Villaviciosa de Córdoba is about 52 kilometres from Córdoba. You can easily reach it via the A-4 motorway towards Madrid, taking exit 399 towards Badajoz, then continuing on the N-432 and A-3075.
