About artists in the 2024 edition.
Yerai Cortés
Born in Alicante in 1995, this promising flamenco guitarist cut his teeth in some of the most prestigious flamenco tablaos in Madrid, including Casa Patas and Corral de la Morería. He has also worked with many established flamenco performers such as Farrucuito, La Negra and La Tana, but he has also ventured into other areas with musicians such as Cuban Jazz pianist Chuchito Valdés.
In addition to being a performer, Yerai is also a composer and producer, and his work is characterised by creativity and the fusion of traditional styles with modern elements.
In 2021, he received the Guitarra con Alma award at the Jerez festival for his participation in Rocío Molina’s Al fondo riela, a recognition that highlights his talent and contribution to contemporary flamenco.
Pony Bravo
Pony Bravo was formed in Seville in 2006, created by Daniel Alonso, a graphic artist and composer of dance music. The group are known for their live performances, which led them to participate in festivals such as Primavera Sound, Territorios Sevilla, Emergencia Fest, Lemon Day and Sonorama.
The band’s music focuses on Andalusian rock from the 1970s, in particular Triana and Veneno, along with influences of Talking Heads, Devo and Captain Beefheart.
Los Hermanos Cubero
Los Hermanos Cubero consists of brothers Enrique and Roberto Ruiz Cubero from Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha. The folk duo won the European Award for New Folklore Creation in 2010 and went on to perform at the Segovia Folk Festival and at the coveted El Sol venue in Madrid. Their style is eminently acoustic and is deeply rooted in folk music characterised by traditional rhythms, structure and metrics of styles such as seguidillas, fandangos and jotas. In addition to composing original music, they also incorporate traditional pieces into their repertoire.
Since their beginnings, they have been able to break down the prejudices that traditional music encounters in urban environments, taking their music to circuits outside of tradition and close to the mainstream.
María de la Flor
María de la Flor is celebrated for her “organic” voice and her costumbrista lyrics, an artist that sings and composes from the roots of traditional chamber music. Born in Madrid in 1993, she is also passionate about the violin, which she began studying when she was three years old. In addition to her notable interest in popular chamber music, she also draws on Latin American influences, which cradles a new format that embodies the simplicity of her music.
Israel Fernandez
Israel was born in Toledo, but has his origins in Andalucía. He began singing during intimate family get-togethers, which were his springboard onto a lucrative career. His performance fuses the orthodox with the contemporary, making him one of the new generation of singers who are contributing to the natural evolution of flamenco.
