Lobras

Centro de Interpretación de la Música Lombarda

This museum exhibits musical instruments from 'El Viaje de Lúa', a journey around the world through rhythms and melodies, and the materials used to make instruments for liturgy, spiritual invocation, courtship and entertainment. Some of the materials used in their construction include wood, cane, bamboo, gourds, coconuts, seeds, skins, bones, horns, clay and metal.

Museo Malacate (Tímar)

This museum uses a series of interesting murals and models to show mercury mining in Tímar, from the extraction of cinnabar ore to the operation of the production factories, as well as various economic and cultural elements of this region, such as looms, silkworm breeding, traditional songs and different farming tools.

Iglesia Parroquial de San Agustín

The first church in Lobras was destroyed in the mid-sixteenth century and had to be rebuilt amid the difficulties of the Moorish rebellion. The oldest element is the tower, which is attached to the small main chapel.

History of Lobras

This municipality, comprising Lobras and Tímar, was founded during the early years of Islamic domination. However, the presence of an inactive mercury mine suggests that there was likely an earlier settlement. This is further supported by the Celtic origin of the place name Lobras and the possible Iberian origin of the place name Tímen (Tímar), as well as some Iberian-Roman archaeological remains found in the municipality. In any case, the earliest written record of Lobras and Tímar is provided by Ben Aljatib (1313–1374), minister to Mohamed V, who cites a twelfth-century writer's description of the Kingdom of Granada.
