Solar Panels
New technology means that anyone can have solar panels on their roof to heat their water - you can see many flat, shiny, rectangular panels, which use the sun´s energy to produce heat directly, with water tanks behind them on houses around Andalucia.
They can be used not only for domestic hot water, but also to heat a swimming pool. Sometimes groups of houses get together and share the costs of the panels between them, thereby lowering the installation costs. Generous government subsidies for solar panels were dramatically reduced in September 2008.
