Rodalquilar -El Cornical Filoturistico Centre
Without needing to understand its name, purpose this visitors centre offers a nice entrance to the botanical gardens. Consisting of a reception room, a room displaying aspects of desert and arid environments. 'Diversity' and 'Landscapes' are the themes of Room A and 'Survival', 'Economy' and 'Self-Defence' of Room B. The wall panels are well presented and colourful.
The building used to be a Cuartel de Guardia Civil, (Civil Guard Barracks) was constructed by the mining company in 1935 as a guard house. After the civil war Guardia Civil we based here to oversee, security of gold, explosives and chemicals, as well as the village population. Although the mine closed in the 1960's the building remained in use up to 1982 when it was abandoned. It was reformed as a tourist centre in 2005.
