History of Busquístar

History of Dílar

HISTORY

The exact origins of this village are unknown, but evidence suggests that it dates back to the 13th century. During the period of Muslim domination, Busquístar belonged to the 'yuz' of Ferreyra, and then to the Taha of Ferreyra. In 1499, the town was granted to the Great Captain as a lordship, together with the Taha of Órgiva. It maintained this status until the lordships disappeared in the nineteenth century. To the southeast of the town, on the summit of a hill close to the hill from which the town takes its name, there are remains of a medieval Mozarabic settlement known as the Mosque, which may have been the origin of the current town. Much of its territory lies within the Alpujarra Historic Site, and the Medieval Route passes through it. The town is characterised by houses built in the traditional Alpujarreño style with flat terraces, many of which are made of stone or painted white.
