Cueva de la Tía Micaela
This cave shelter was excavated at the end of the tenth or beginning of the eleventh century, and was occupied intermittently until it was abandoned at the end of the fourteenth century. The complex consists of different rooms arranged over three levels, which are connected by a single access point that is protected by a well, a machicolation and a mill wheel that blocks the entrance. The rooms vary in size and contain mangers, elements for tying up cattle, niches for supporting oil lamps, silos and so on. Several rooms on a single level, which must have functioned as stables, are associated with the shelter described. It is located a mile north of Cortes.Visits to the interior of Cueva de la Tía Micaela and other locations can be visited through tours organized by Goyo Garrido Adventures or from the Cueva Museo Centro de Interpretación Cuevas de Guadix.
