Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares

The museum makes an extensive journey through the history and ethnology of the town, standing out for its extraordinary representative quality and the perfect harmony of its staging. The abundant collection is related to trades (barber, doctor, blacksmith, apothecary, shepherd, esparto worker, carpenter, midwife, seamstress, shopkeeper and others) that are exhibited in independent units with a multitude of objects forming realistic reconstructions.

Look out for the wonderful eighteenth-century loom and the textile production of linen, wool and silk at the time. The domestic rooms of a bourgeois house are also included in the reconstructions. The museum has a reference library, specializing in anthropological themes with a special focus on Andalusian ethnography and themes related to the contents of the museum. In recent years, the museum has held numerous temporary exhibitions and has published details of the workshops and research carried out by the museum. It continues to cooperate in various cultural events, whether its own, private or public, in order to promote the study of anthropology and social history in Begíjar.
