Rio Guadalimar
The Guadalimar River rises at the foot of the Almenara hill, at an altitude of 1,200m, in the Alcaraz mountain range in Albacete, and heads towards the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park, and flows into the Guadalquivir River in the municipality of Torreblascopedro. It owes its name to the colour of its waters, since Gualimar derives from wad al-Ihmar, meaning “red river”. It crosses the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park, collecting the waters of many streams and smaller rivers: its channel receives water from the Onsares, Guadalmena, Guadalén, Cortillas, Frío, Carrizas, Morles and Trujala rivers. The river and its main tributaries have little slope and a low flow, but among its streams there are corners of spectacular beauty. Its waters calm down in the Pantano de Giribaile, the second most important reservoir in the province where you can fish for barbels, carp, black-bass and pike.
