Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro

Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro

The church was built on the site of a former, possibly Gothic, temple. The construction of the current church began around 1500, and it was rebuilt in the sixteenth century with a layout by Alonso Barba, a disciple of Vandelvira. The building process extended throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, due to lack of financial resources. In 1577, Alonso Barba took charge of the works already started on the church. At that time, the temple only included its three naves. Construction began again around 1619 and was the work of Juan de Aranda Salazar. In the upper part of the north façade are the coats of arms of Alonso Suárez de la Fuente del Sauce, Bishop of Jaén at the time. Declared a National Monument in 1972.
