History of Instinción

The name Instinción is believed to be of Latin origin, dating from the time of Augustus, in Romanized Hispania. However, is has also been argued that Instinción was the name of a Muslim Princess from the Nasrid family. The town was a Muslim farmhouse during the Middle Ages, sitting in a privileged enclave next to fertile and strategic land on the Alpujarra road.

Benitagla

Benitagla is a small and calm village surrounded by plots of almond and olive trees and vines. It has about 60 inhabitants. Benitagla was founded by the descendants of the Berber Tribes that settled in the Sierra de los Filabres between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries in the Nasrid period. The earliest data of Benitagla stretches back to July 1488.

El Campillo

El Campillo is situated very near Minas de Rio Tinto and covers an area of 91km², at an altitude of 434m above sea level. It sits in the centre of the Comarca de la Cuenca Minera de Riotinto (the Mining Basin of RioTinto) and has around 2300 inhabitants.

Club de Golf Corta Atalaya

In 1990 the new Atalaya golf course was built next to the village of Minas de Rio Tinto; the original was founded in the 19th century within the Rio Tinto copper mine. The course is 2,300 metres long, with grassed greens but the fairways are bare earth, reminiscent of the original course used by miners and engineers.

AVE high speed train from Barcelona to Malaga

Frequency: two trains daily Stops: Taragona, Lleida, Zaragoza, Cordoba, Puente Genil, Antequera. The AVE route runs on the Barcelona to Madrid section opened in February 2008, the  Madrid to Córdoba section opened in April 1992, and the Córdoba to Málaga section opened on 24 December 2007. The older section has a maximum speed of 270 km/h and the newer sections 300 km/h.

Abrucena

Abrucena offers a beautiful natural environment for its visitors. In the village centre, the streets are narrow and winding and lead to the most important building: the sixteenth-century church. It’s also worth visiting the ruins of El Castillejo, located on the banks of the river facing the village. It has about 1,200 inhabitants.

Bollullos par del Condado

Bollullos par del Condado is within the comarca of El Condado and its 50km² of land is east of the province of Huelva. Its name "Par del Condado", meaning to be "with", comes from its proximity to the Condado de Niebla. Bollullos par el Condado has become very popular due to its production of local wines and gastronomy. It has 13,500 inhabitants.

Villanueva de San Juan

Lakes used to make up a big part of the landscape around Villanueva de San Juan so it is a rich source of marine fossils. It has about 1,100 inhabitants.

Montalbán

Montalbán de Córdoba not only offers some excellent surrounding views, but the fascinating monuments of the Ermita del Calvario and the Ermita Madre de Díos. The town has around 4200 inhabitants.

San Juan del Puerto

San Juan del Puerto is situated far south west of Comarca El Condado, bordering the capital of Huelva. Although considered an agricultural village, it is also an industrial location, due to its proximity to the capital. It sits on the north bank of the Rio Tinto. Through traffic from Seville to Huelva now by-passes the village on the A-49 Motorway. It has about 8700 inhabitants.
