Algarrobo

On the Ruta del Sol y del Vino, Algarrobo is divided into two parts, one inland and the other coastal, located 3 km away from each other. The inland urban town is usually referred to as "Algarrobo Pueblo", and the coastal town "Algarrobo Costa". It is named after the algarrobo (carob) tree, with long, dark (when ripe) pods; carob is used as a sweetener.

Iglesia de la Inmaculada

Eighteenth-century parish church in the Neoclassical style. It is unusual in that the roof is covered with thin slate rather than terracotta roof tiles. Its interior is very sober and the arches that support the vault stand out.

Genalguacil - Encuentros de Arte 1995

A bi-annual event during the first two weeks in August on even years there is an art festival in Genalguacil called "Los Encuentros de Arte del Valle del Genal", and prize-winning works of art are created by 'Artists in residence' and placed on permanent public display throughout the village afterwards. Almeria - Red Garlic Fish Stew

Cut the fish into chunks. Put the water in a pan with the salt and bring to a boil. Add the potatoes, whole tomato and dried peppers. Cook, covered, until the potatoes are almost tender. In a mortar, blender or processor purée the garlic, oil, cumin, paprika, cayenne and saffron with the cooked and skinned tomato, peppers and a few pieces of the potato.

Andalucian Poets' Garden in Estepona

The Paseo de los Poetas Andaluces (Andalucian Poets' Garden) is an interesting concept. The casual passer-by walking down Calle Jesús Cautivo and glancing into the garden could be forgiven for thinking they have been transported back to the Middle Ages or a Game of Thrones set where the heads of criminals are impaled on stakes. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Minas del Conjuro

One of the most charming areas of the village is Minas del Conjuro.

Macharaviaya

This hill village, part of the Ruta Turistica del Sol y el Aguacate, enjoyed the height of its fortunes from the 18th century until the beginning of the 19th century. In fact, such was Macharaviaya's status that it was known as "little Madrid".

Geology

There is much to be learned about the fascinating limestone formations throughout Andalucía and what better way to get to know them than with an experienced, certified speleologist - or specialist in the study of caves.

Horno Árabe

A bread-baking oven is traditionally known as a ‘tahona’ in Spanish. The tahona in Chirivel is one of the oldest buildings in the town, with its construction predating that of the church. These ovens were always communal, and locals would bring their bread dough to be baked at a price.

Jibia con Tomate

Cover bottom of a skillet with olive oil and sauté the onion with the bay leaf and peppercorns on high for a few minutes. Add the cuttlefish and then the tomato sauce after a few minutes; cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for an hour or so until the cuttlefish is very tender when pierced with a fork. Salt to taste.

Maya Marbella

Maya lounge by day and Maya disco bar by evening Marbella port, located in the Puerto Deportivo (Marina). More up market than others in the port. Th e Marbella Marina in general has seen better days and could do with a facelift.

Semana Santa in Granada

Processions take place throughout the province along with Passion Plays as well. There is one more special claim to fame by the provincial capital in that no where else in Andalucia can you experience Semana Santa with the Alhambra in the background.

Balneario de Marmolejo

The Marmolejo public spa building dates from the first half of the twentieth century, and is housed in an eclectically styled set of buildings on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. Among its beautiful gardens, a building from the end of the nineteenth century particularly stands out, known as Casa del Médico.

Early human settlements in the area are indicated by numerous remains.

Mazagón Beaches

Mazagón is a town in the municipality of Palos de la Frontera. This long beach spans 5.5 kilometres next to the town of Mazagon and borders Doñana natural park. The most urban part of the beach to the west of the town and closest to the marina has all facilities including: showers, beaches, lifeguards, parking, parasols and sunbeds for hire, beach cafés and parking.

Golf News - Captain Bjørn brings Ryder Cup fever to Valderrama

Victorious Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn will be reunited with Europe's all-time leading Ryder Cup points scorer when he tees it up at the Andalucía Valderrama Masters hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation on October 18-21, 2018.

Bjørn will join defending champion Garcia at Real Club Valderrama just three weeks after captaining Europe to a 17.5 - 10.5 win over the United States in Paris, where the 2017 Masters Tournament winner overtook Sir Nick Faldo at the top of the European points list.
