Rubite

Rubite is an ideal destination for nature lovers, with the perfect combination of the sierra together with both sandy and rocky beaches. It is considered to be the balcony to the coast from the Alpujarras mountains. It has about 400 inhabitants.

Plaza de los Caños

The fountain has seven spouts, with various water pressures. The four spouts on the left lead from the Moscoso orchard, from where it is channelled under the even-numbered houses of Calle Prado, and the three pipes on the right are supplied from the upper part of Calle Mina. Its central location makes this square a point of reference and orientation for locals. The successive remodelling of the square eliminated another fountain that once served as a watering hole for animals. Even so, it retains elements worth mentioning, such as the large mansions that surround the square and the traditional public laundry area. There is almost no season of the year in which the square does not become the scene of celebrations and events.

The forest is renowned for the longevity of its trees, with many between 100 and 250 years old. As well as being of great scientific and educational value (demonstrating the pine lifecycle), the forest is an important habitat for species such as the wood pigeon and Bonelli’s eagle. The forest also offers visitors beautiful panoramic views of the Sierra Mágina, the Campiña de Jaén olive grove and various towns including Jimena, Torres and Albanchez de Mágina. Declared an Andalusian Natural Monument.

When tourists arrive on the Costa del Sol for their summer holidays or mid-winter break they soon discover that some of their fellow countrymen are so enamoured with the place that they stayed behind when their group went home or organised a move, lock, stock and barrel, or made elaborate plans to retire here when the time came.

About La Axarquia

It's hard to believe that the wild beauty of the La Axarquía is just half an hour from the coast of Málaga's eastern Costa del Sol. These villages are as interesting as the better-known white villages to the west and inland from the more glitzy western Costa del Sol including the gateway of Marbella. Nerja, to be fair, is the jewel in the crown of this eastern stretch Costa del Sol coastline. It has maintained a certain old-fashioned charm with its magnificent palm-lined Balcón de Europa, justly famed as one of the most beautiful promenades on the Coast.
