Lecrín

Lecrin is the town which was named after the comarca (area) Valle de Lecrin (Lecrin Valley) in which is is located. As a municipality Lecrin was only formed in the 1970s. It was combined with six older villages - Mondújar, Talará, Béznar, Acequias, Chite and Murchas to form the - have been around for much longer. 

Restaurants

An increasingly popular tourist destination due to its beaches and coastal location, Almuñecar is home to some top-class restaurants serving high quality Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine. It has a good variety of restaurants, but the speciality here is the freshly-caught, local seafood and shellfish.

Setenil de las Bodegas

Named after its once flourishing wineries - bodegas - Setenil is probably unique among the pueblos blancos, white villages, of Andalucia. Where most pueblos blancos were built on protective bluffs and pinnacles, this town grew out of a network of caves in the cliffs above the rio Trejo north-west of Ronda.

Via Verde of Olvera

Possibly the most beautiful vía verde in Andalucia is the route between Puerto Serrano, west of Algodonales on the Ronda-Sevilla road, and the former bandit haven Olvera, sitting on its dramatic pinnacle north-east of Ronda.

Valentines Day - 14 February

The 14th of February is Valentine's Day, or Dia de los Enamorados (Lovers' Day) in Spain. Many hotels and restaurants around Andalucia will have special offers on, so if you're after a last-minute package, you're sure to be spoiled for choice - themed menus, dishes, suites and rental villas, with that little extra something thrown in to create the right atmosphere for the occasion.

Beas de Guadix

Beas de Guadix, which used to be a prison for the Christian soldiers of the Muslim times, is located in the Sierra Nevada National Park, surrounded by badlands, peculiar forms of the clay land thanks to the action of the water, and large pine forests. As the old Roman Road that linked Guadix with Granada used to pass through Beas de Guadix, today, we can still see archaeological ruins of some of the villages of this period.

Castillo de Arenas

Situated 1393m above sea level, the castle sits on the Cerro del Castillo de Puerta Arenas, in the Sierra de Alta Coloma, between Granada and Jaén. The Portillo del Río Campillo is the only practicable pass to cross this Sierra. The castle stands on an L-shaped ridge, whose ends are two promontories defended by cuts in the terrain. Today, the castle is in a ruinous state. Located north of the town, off the JV-2228.

Zahara de los Atunes

Zahara de los Atunes is one of the most charming, and fashionable, towns on the Cadiz Costa de la Luz. With a stunning beach, boasting crystal-clear waters and golden sand, Zahara's main advantage over some other beach resorts in the area, which consist largely of hotels (albeit low-rise) and restaurants lining a beachfront road, is its villagey feel.

Algarinejo

The municipality of Algarinejo is comprised of two areas in addition to the main area: La Viña y Fuentes de Cesna, which was inhabited by Arabs dedicated to the jewellery industry. Narrow streets, dating back to the Muslim epoch, lead to a series of caves that used to serve as refuges for the locals and are well maintained by the municipality making them safe and accessible to tourists.

Sierra Bermeja mountain

The Sierra Bermeja mountain (1.449m) dominates the landscape behind Estepona. There are few places in the world where a mountain reaches this height so close to the sea (10km) You can drive to near the top in under an hour. Take the road (Carretera Genalguacil) (MA-8301)

Carmona

Carmona is a picturesque, small town with a magnificent fifteenth century tower built in imitation of Seville's Giralda, which is the first thing you see upon arriving. It has about 28, 500 inhabitants.
