Festivals in Cartama
Cártama celebrates a wide range of traditional festivals throughout the year. Two of the most important — Verdiales and Holy Week (Semana Santa) — have now been officially recognised as Festivals of National Tourist Interest.
Carnival
The carnival in Cártama takes place in February.
Semana Santa
The Holy Week (Semana Santa) in Cártama takes place during the week leading up to Easter Sunday.
Los Verdiales
The Verdiales take place first Sunday in May at Ermita de las Cruces.
Virgen de los Remedios
The Virgin of Los Remedios is taken from the sanctuary above the town to the Iglesia Parroquia de San Pedro on 22 April and is paraded around the town on 23 April. The fair is followed by a cattle fair.
San Isidro
San Isidro is the patron saint of Estacion de Cartama and is celebrated on 15th May.
Virgin to the Ermita
Return of the Virgin to the Ermita is celebrated early June.
San Juan
San Juan takes place the night of 24th June.
Día de los Canastitos
St Anne's day baskets of food taken to the banks of the Rio Grande and is celebrated on 26th July.
Feria de Ganado
Feria de Ganado (Cattle Fair) takes place 24th September.
El Sexma Fiestas
The Sexmo Fiestas are celebrated four days in the second week of September.
