Las Huertas
The Moorish influence is still felt in the layout of the Barrio Alto, and in the extension of some alleys and streets, such as Miguel Hernández, formerly Calle Real. There are examples of the presence of important families, as shown by their imposing doorways, walls, and balconies. However, the huertas (orchards) that once dominated the centre of the town have almost disappeared. Perhaps the best examples are the Huerta Grande, Huerta Íberos, or Huerta de Santa Rita. All that remains of other orchards are their names, such as the Huerta de las Infantas, a small Nasrid palace from the 19th century, or the Casa Ahumada, which is linked to the foundation of the Civil Guard. The land, which until recently belonged to the Huerta Grande, is intended to house a large green area of 7,200m².
