Benalauría Musuem

The building that houses the museum is a olive oil mill of typical construction from the 18th century. The buildign is a large construction of masonry with window and door openings framed in brickwork. The building has a L-shaped plan.

Inside the building the centrepiece is a genuine mule powered olive oil mill, with two conical presses with all the necessary tools for its full operation. Other parts of the building are preserved in the same from when the mill owner lived and worked in the building. The spece is complimented with a handful of historical objects and tools from the farming iundustry and rural life.

The village museum was set up via a cooperative company in 1993. It leased the old Antonio Almagro Mill and proceeded to restore the mill which was the best surviving example in the village. Villages donated artefacts from the rural history of the village. It opened to the public in 1993. The following year (1994) the company occupies another mill of which much fewer remains are preserved and installs an inn that can be consider complement of services of the first.
